From Pete Thamel of The New York Times: “Fran Fraschilla, an ESPN analyst who covers college games and analyzes foreign players in the N.B.A. draft, noted that if Tyler played in the second division in Spain, his competition would be former college stars like Wayne Simien (Kansas), Taylor Coppenrath (Vermont) and Danya Abrams (Boston College). ‘He’s going to have to be mentally and physically tough,’ Fraschilla said. But Fraschilla added that he was certain Tyler was not going to Europe for the money. He said he could easily earn $200,000 in the United States. ‘He could pretty much get that money illegally, either via a college or an agent, willing to funnel his family the money,’ Fraschilla said. ‘I’m hoping this is a savvy move to really improve his game.’”

College basketball analysts like Fraschilla very rarely make broad statements like this.

My question to the board is how often do you think this type of stuff happens? How many elite level schools are paying kids under the table?

Happens very often..Kstate getting all of these DC area kids the past few years(you really think its because they like hanging out with dalonte hill?)
Baylor gaining the interest of the Kevin Rogers and John Wall's of the country..

Millions more examples out there.. almost any industry you can think of has smatterings of corruption.

Because the people involved usually know how to keep their mouth shut. Because they get a lot of money for it too.

Why should it leak? It's not a crime, it's just a silly NCAA infraction. The NCAA is the party that needs to tap into reality. These schools make millions off of college basketball, "funneling" thousands of dollars to athletes that allow programs to continue making millions is only good business. But the people brainwashed by the NCAA actually expect a "full ride athletic scholarship" to be payment in full for these athletes.

Interesting. Those players hardly seem like pushover competition. In the Brandon Jennings interview that DX conducted, he said that the European game caters to big men moreso than star guards. This is partially true. Jennings felt that he could potentially garner some recognition if he chooses his squad wisely. Spanish and Italian Second divisions have some tough competition, so he certainly won't be babied, but he may not waste away at the end of the bench forever. But, that will depend on his attitude. I doubt he is as composed and mature as Jennings.

Well, then again Jennings wasn´t seen as as composed and mature as he is now, so i´d just reserve judgement on this aspect until he´s been over a couple months and see how he does with the adjustment on an off the court.
Disagree on the part of Big Men playing a bigger role here. Unless a big can shoot the ball and play the 4/5 simultanously he´s gonna be ignored by and large just like in College. There´s a reason why the few good lowpost scorers or shotblockers/defenders generally play less minutes, their weaknesses are outweighing the positives compared to hybrid bigs that can shoot and move the ball.
