EURO CHAMPIONSHIP, NBA STARS AND PROSPECTS TO SEE

Post#1 » by KOBE_PAUER » Sun Jun 21, 2009 1:36 am

Who will win?? Kirilenko's Russia is the current champion, but they have no chances this year. Greece, Germany or Spain are favourites. And other countrys like Italy or Serbia have their chances. I think Spain will win, they have the better players by far.

Last I checked Dirk and Kaman weren't playing in this so Germany will be lucky to make it out of group play. Spain is the clear favorite especially with Pau thinking about suiting up after all.

Lithuania seems to be in rebuilding and retooling mode, Greece though could still have a legit chance to walk away with gold.

(on a side note yeah this belongs in International)

Slovenia, Greece, and Spain are the clear by far strongest teams. Germany does not stand a chance to medal even if Kaman and Dirk play they don't stand a chance.

Slovenia has a shot to compete with Spain and Greece this time because Slovenia is sending almost all of their best players and the other two are not. Still Spain and Greece are probably a little bit stronger. There is no single "clear cut favorite" though. Not at all.

Yeah, i agree with you.. I just mentioned Slovenija, because 6/7 other countries like Italy(lol:P) were mentioned, but no Slovenija..
Well, we are lacking two stars as well.. Starting center(in Rasho), and starting 2 guard(in Sani Bečirovič)
Now Sasha will start for us, most likely:S

On a side note I think if either Italy or France become the last qualifier, they could wind up going deep in the tournament. Having lucked out and landing with the group with Russia and Germany.

Group C is looking like the group of death. Spain, Slovenia, Serbia, GB. GB might be the worst team and they'll have Ben Gordan, Loul Deng, and Pops on the roster so they shouldn't be taken lightly.

Italy hasn't qualified and likely won't make it through qualification with France being there.

My top 10 teams as followed would be.....

1. Spain (Pau Gasol is playing which means they're the likely favorites)
2. Greece
3. Slovenia
4. Lithuania
5. Croatia
6. France (they'll make it)
7. Serbia
8. Russia
9. Turkey
10. Great Britain

Germany is likely to miss out on the elimination round and possibly not play in the 2010 WC.

Ben Gordon
Luol Deng
Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Robert Archibald
Andrew Betts
Joel Freeland
Kelenna Azubuike

That's a strong team for sure, but still no decent point guard and they don't have much depth. They are sort of like France's A team in that they can beat most of the teams except for ones like Spain and Greece that are 12 deep even if they don't send their best players.

As far as I know, Navarro and Pau Gasol have made no decision yet on whether they will play or not.

Gasol: I still haven't made up my mind

Rumors surfaced lately that Pau Gasol will go to the Eurobasket in Poland after all, based on statements he made on American TV."Yes, I am going to play in the Eurobasket. I've got time to rest until September." he said.

Shortly after all media was buzzing that he will be going to the Eurobasket. Shortly after however, the player himself released a statement in his official website that he has not taken a decision yet.

This is the official statement:

"Pau Gasol has not reached any final decision regarding his participation in the Eurobasket of Poland. His words in the interview on ABC should be contextualized in a colloquial tone. Indeed, there are chances that Pau will play in the Eurobasket since the season ended well physically and he still has time to rest for the tournament being in September.

Nevertheless, Pau wants to make known that he has taken no decision yet, but wants to clarify that it is, as always, an honour to play in the National Team if he is 100% convinced that it is the best for the team and himself.

Pau said that "there has been no official statement of mine, just a funny tone in response to a joke that I have made in the interview.". And during that interview, Gasol said twice "may" and "might be" which translated into Spanish means "maybe" or "possible"

"For me to play with Spain in the Eurobasket," Gasol added, "is a challenge and I have to first confirm whether or not I am prepared," but in any case would be "very proud" to have done so.

Finally, the Lakers star said that the decision will be announced in Spain when he returns from Los Angeles, where he is now devoted to enjoy the championship won by his team."
