CAN A "TEAM EUROPE" BEAT the best "TEAM USA"???

Post#1 » by KOBE_PAUER » Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:04 pm

I mean, even only Spain could beat Team Usa in that amazing Gold Medal Game in the Olympics. Without Kobe Bryant who was Clutch, that team with Lebron, Wade, CP3, Bosh, Howard, Carmelo, Kidd, etc. would have lost that game. So, imagine a Team Europe, with Parker, Turkoglu, Nowitzki, Pietrus, Gasol, Rudy fernandez, etc etc. The NBA Euro stars....
What could they possibly do in a game against TEAM USA??? Who is the favourite?

If you're assuming the absolute BEST players in the NBA play the game, I would say USA has the edge.

CP3/Williams/Billups
Bryant/Wade (6th Man)
James/Anthony/Artest
Garnett/Bosh/Anthony
Howard/Shaq?/Perkins?

Beats

Parker/Calderon/Rubio?
Fernandez?/Pietrus?/Peja?
Hedo/??
Dirk/Bargnani?
Gasol/Gortat?

I'm sure I'm missing some Euros there but still...

It'd be a better game if it was USA vs. World

^ You forgot to add Duncan to your list.

I agree that if you took the best american players from the NBA they would win. Problem is USA rarely sends over the best possible team to the olympics.

I think in the past with a prime Shaq, Team Usa was impossible to beat. Now, even with the best team possible, they can lose. See that final, USA needed shoot over 60% for the win. If Kobe had a bad day, they would have lost.

Duncan is European?

Nash is CANADIAN. CANADA is not in Europe last time I checked.

And I'm pretty sure Yao is from CHINA. Which is in ASIA. NOT EUROPE. KIRILENKO is RUSSIAN. ALSO ASIAN. but a better case can be made for him than Yao.

He's using a hypothetical "TEAM EUROPE" so I'm being hypothetical and saying USA is sending it's best players.

As I stated earlier, TEAM WORLD vs. TEAM USA would be much more competitive.

EDIT: My bad, didn't see you were responding to the Team World.

If Kings can beat Lakers, then TEAM EUROPE can beat TEAM USA.

Anything happens.

Give them 10-game series.
The Euro probably would take 2 games or so.

In 1 game anyone can lose. Especially in FIBA where the 3pt shot is such a huge part of the game (and shorter) and you can play junk zone defenses.

7 game series US would never lose though regardless of the rules.

Russians are not Asians. The country technically extends into Asia, but Russia is considered a European country because the majority of the population and the major cities are concentrated near Europe. Also, Russia's history and its people are more intertwined with the western European countries than with the Asiatic neighbors.

Anyway, I think an all-team Europe or world would give an all-team USA fits if they were playing under FIBA rules. With NBA regulations, however, USA would flat out dominate.

I agree. I think an all-team Rest of the World would beat an all-team USA under FIBA rules. Even the top american players aren't really good playing and attacking zones or dealing with hand-checking and moving screens. I don't think an European team would be enough, you'd need the Argentinians and Yao.

Excuses, excuses, excuses........

Spain shot 51% from the field, 47% from 3, 82% from FT line, and still lost. If Fernandez had a bad day, Spain would have lost by more pts. You can spin it any way you want, but Spain still lost. They are the #1 loser (2nd place).

To make matters worse, USA beat Spain in soccer.

USA is the #1 loser a lot this decade then. 2002, 2004, 2006. And they are officially a loser in the FIBA rankings then. Nice way to contribute to the forum.

Hmm.. yes, I think I would, provided I'd have a few weeks to get some of Siskauskas quickness back - he plays with the speed of a turtle these days (mostly because even playing that slowly he's still the best player in the court by far most nights). I think that in a FIBA set, Siskas is the superior player.

Anyway, I didn't put a lot of thought at that line-up, I just threw 15 names. I'd probably need more defence in that team, so I guess I'd start Diamantidis, leave Parker in the bench and allow Siskas and Manu to be the playmakers. Also, I wouldn't need guys like Papaloukas and Rakocevic, for example; I'd probably call up someone like Garabajosa and Vasilopoulos.

Anyway, if the series were played under NBA rules and officiating, I'd have Hedo starting and Deng backing him up.
