Milwaukee Bucks Fans "Childress Was Jordan In Europe"

Post#1 » by KWSN-Men » Fri Jul 10, 2009 9:24 pm

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=925489

In that thread you will find Milwaukee Bucks fans claiming that Josh Childress was "dominant" in Greece and Europe, and was even "the Michael Jordan of Europe". There are some Bucks fans that seem to also be clearly implying that Childress was basically the best player in both Greece and all of Europe.

For all European basketball fans feel free to chime in here so that these Bucks fans can get some reality.

I hope John Hammond feels that way. As a Hawks fan, I don't want Josh back, but would love to have SOME value for him.

Maybe the Bucks fans will help convince him. After all, according to some Bucks fan he was "amazing to all the European League followers".

cantervil and robbe: please stop encouraging him to write in the Bucks board.

Btw, it doesn't really matter, but it was a Hawks fan who made the Michael Jordan comment (and jokingly).

kids - sometimes you have to explain things over and over to them. This just happens to be one of those cases.

Wow... Childress has just been lazy in Europe never going all out because there's no motivation to do so.

This is absurd, MJ of Europe? Wow...

Thats about as bad as saying that the following PGs:

Sarunas Jasikevicius
Theo Papaloukas
Pablo Prigioni
Vassilis Spanoulis
Terrell McIntyre

Could/would help the Raptors win more games in the NBA than Jose Calderon.

Or

Jose Calderon is an above average PG and one of the most efficient PG's whereas the rest of the players you listed couldn't even hold Jose's jockstrap in the NBA

Why? What's your argument to make Calderon a far superior NBA player relatively to those guys? I don't agree at all. The others are debatable, but a prime Papaloukas would have been a better player than Calderon in the NBA, in Europe and even in Mars, don't you think?

Prime Papaloukas had a better court vision than Calderon but on the other hand he still was a bad shooter, average defender(perhaps awful in nba level due to his poor lateral quickness) would have big trouble drivin to the lane and because of his flashy style turned the ball a lot more than Jose.Claiming that prime Papaloukas was a better player seems a huge exaggeration to me.Imo Calderon was and still is the superior between those two.Anyway all this talk is a bit theoritical, paploukas had tha chance to play in the NBA but rejected Celtic's offer because he thought he couldn't fulfill his ambitions there.Ironically a few days after he rejected em they got Allen and K.G.

Calderon wasn't the same player he is today when he joined the NBA. In fact, if Calderon had returned to Europe after his rookie season, I suspect that Ha!'s opinion on him would be quite different. A large majority of the people would see him as some scrub without enough quality to start in the NBA, let alone to be an above average player.

This is the issue here: circumstances are everything for most of these players (and the others too). The situation they land on is critical. I'm no fan of Spanoulis or Saras, but do you really believe Calderon is so superior to them to the point of being an above average starter while the other two are even above average backups? What if Spanoulis, Navarro or Saras were the ones signing with Toronto and Calderon had signed with Houston or Memphis? How different would the perceptions be?

Put Papaloulas in a team with a ball-dominant wing and ask him to defend the opponent PG and play off-the-ball: epic bust. Allow him to handle the playmaking and surround him with shooters, screeners and defenders: better player than Calderon.
