U20 European championship

Post#1 » by Greek » Thu Jul 16, 2009 6:10 am

Today starts the U20 europeans championship in Greece, and luckily the games will be broad casted from ET1, at least the games of the Greek NT. A good chance for me to see the European youngsters. I will try to give some evaluation of them.

Is there an online pass or anything?

Interestingly, I see the Greeks have a staggering 7 players from the u19 squad playing, out of the 12 roster spots.

Greece up on Belgium 43-29 at halftime. It was close in the 1st quarter but the home boys shook off their jet lag. Bogris and Kaselakis have been controlling the paint.

Some thoughts about the game. Ive got impressed with Kaselakis. He is only 198 cm PF and not very athletic but wide body, very strong, who always is playing hard, developing 3pt shooting, he can pass and play D. A glue guy that may not have great potential but for sure will have a nice career in Europe

Bogris: Mobile left handed finesse PF, who is mobile, coordinate and smooth. He needs to add some muscles but very skilled with nice 15feet range, and some hookshots too.

From Belgium team Serron was by far there best player. He looked a nice and smart PG who is also not very athletic, but he knows how to play the game

Senna Joselito Hounhanou showed some nice athleticism, and a good move close to basket, but being 192cm PF certainly limits his potential but from Belgium has the best tools to work with

80-56, beatdown. :)

Kaselakis is like the new Ntikoudis only with more range.

i live in rodos greece and stopped by the arena for the 1st half. It's obvious the boys from he u19 team are still tired from the previouse tournament and maybe even jetlagged. Sloukas and Pappas looked like b class players! Thank god for Bogris!

We won in overtime over Germany 91-86.

My quick priview of this team: This is qite a week generation for our standards so beside faling to B devision evrthing would do OK for me. In my eys Only Bogdanovic, Bilan, Kruslin and Marcinkovic have some kind a future in senior basketball. Besides being week generation also few injurys from solid players on this level hurted us and of cours 90. born guys were at world champion. Also we lack of good PG, and big men's rotation until Delas joins this team. Only Bilan and Hajdic are servicable bigs. It was scedueld that Zubcic and Delas join this team on Sunday but Zubcic was not alowed by Cibona doctors because he had small knee injury in New Zeland. Insted of him Matej Karlovic will join them tomorow while Delas will join tham on Sunday.

Bojan Bogdanovic (SF 6'7 89. Real Madrid)-32 points today. Guy who was hyped as cadet so far didn't live up to expectations, but finaly showed during preparation games and in this game there is still hope for him. Litle bit unatletic player, but skilled and with good shoot. He is suposed to be leader of this team. Real will probably sent him on a loan again. Not a NBA prospect but hpefully will finaly live up to some expectations and become star in europ

Miro Bilan (PF/C 6'11 89. KK Sibenik)-19 + 8 today. Solid centar prospect for europ. Dominated in week Croatian league and will likley move to some stronger club that plays Adriatic league. Rummors say that it will be Zadar. Nice combination of inside-outside game with rage to tree point line. Maybe guy with bigest upside in this weak generation

Pavle Marcinkovic (SG/SF 6'6 89. KK Zadar)-16+7 today. For most of people unknown player. Had big problems with atitude, was even kicked out of team but it seams that Zmago Sagadin who is known as "Atila" type of coach worked wonders with him juding by preparation games and today game. Atletic player for euro standards who can play some good D. Last time a sow him he was terible shooter but today 4/5 for 3 showed some impruvment. Definetly prospect who has some future, but needs to decide does he wanna play or not. Coach Sagadin is definetley best soulution for him

Filip Kruslin (SG 6'6 89. KK Cibona)-unfortunaly injured. Solid prospect for Europ to. Has god skills and some of natrual scoring abilitys with good shooting touch. Unatletic player. Needs to work on becoming better defender and show more desire becouse with out that Cibona coach Perasovic won't take him in team

Alo we lack of good PG,

How come Toni Prostran isn't on the squad? Injury? Fatigue?

Once again I managed to stop by and have a quick look at the Lithuania - Israel game.
Ieven got to sit right infront of coach Kazlaouskas and his assistant Sferopoulos! their main discussion was about Papanikolaou getting only 3 mins p/g on Aris!

To the game.
The lithuanian boys can shoot like crazy!
There was alot of talk about no 14. A very tall kid who is supposed to reach the draft in a few years. My verdict: nothing special. Very slow! A bad launch of the ball off his pivot. Couldnt out muscle the israeli boys after offensive rebounds. He did try to make some high - low passes that looked nice though.
no9 (I think kuzminskas) Will 4sure make the NBA when his time comes. Carries his boddy very well. A high flyer with a great shot. Made a couple follow dunks look very easy! He hoggs the ball alot as 2-3 times he didnt give no 14 some easy assists under the basket. He drives very nicely from the left!
Last but not least: no 4 the pg. A leader on the court. Made his men listen to him at all times. never stopped talking! beautiful form on his 3pt shot. Had his head high on the fast break where he found open passes that ended up in easy buckets. At half time the lithuanians were up by 30!

On the Israeli team. The only thing i saw was a nice sg that had some good hang time and control of his body in the air. I gotta get my notes out and tell u guys about him later.

Game Greece vs Italy. A really tough game, with both teams playing hard D, with Italians to use zone 3-2 zone for the most of the game. Italy doesnt look very talented in general, especially on the big men, but they have some nice guards with very good 3pt shot.
Most notable Italian player regarding potential looked David Reginald Cournooh. 185cm PG, with great athleticism, handle, and good passing skills. He is raw but i can see him developing really nicely down the road

Greek players
Bogris: His bank shot wasnt falling today, but he showed some amazing touch around the basket, finishing with left/right hooks, good balance on the air, and he was able to convert multiple goal-foul plays. The future for this kid looks great.

Sloukas: 187 PG, played really nice filling the stat **** like Diamantidis. He had like 8-10 points 8 rebs 6 assists. Not a great upside player, but for sure talented enough for Europe

Papanikolaou: 201 SF, with great athleticism by European standards with 3pt range, can block shots, guard 3 positions, and very good offensive rebounder. Him and Bogris in my eyes have the more upside than any1 of the team. Right now Pappas is the best player though who reminds me young Zissis

How about Rullo and Martinoni (our leading scorers)? Thanks

Well as i said i saw that they are good shooters, but to be honest i didnt know who to watch closely so i tried to keep some names, that will impress me. Typical Italian guards with good shooting and hustling, but as you can see from the box score didnt show anything great, but i will keep my eyes on those on my next chance to watch an Italy game

Especially Benetton Treviso's Roberto Rullo (1990 born) was considered a sort of italian Rubio 2-3 years ago but he has yet to explode (and some believe he never will)... a questionable attitude... anyway he's our most talented guard, skill wise.

Well, Martinoni is more of a finished product... a 6-8 forward with a nose for the basket but poor athletic skills. He has to play under the basket due to our important missing of Andrea Renzi (the best big man we have at 6-10).

Thanks for keeping your eyes on them!

Papanikolaou sure is impressive. He can do it all, shoot, drive, pass, block, jump.
Mazzon better give him some playing time otherwise vafanculo
