It's a pretty weak team.

Other than Deng and Gordon, which isn't really much of a surprise, ex Cal Bear Richard Midgley is the biggest name left of the roster. He pulled out due to injury.

Midgley isn't a bigger name than Freeland. I agree, quite unimpressive squad.

Where is Luol Deng ?
He played the qualification round last year, but he will not play the European Championship? :S

The bigs are decent. Archibald, Freeland, Pops and Betts are all solid. It's the guard play that is pretty dreadful. Nate Reinking can really fill it up from deep, but that's about as much production scoring wise that you'll get from the backcourt.

The SF's are decent. Andrew Sulivan is a pretty good player, and Nick George isn't all that bad.

They'll certainly struggle without Deng and Gordon though. It's a bit of disaster.

Considering the group they are in (you could call it the group of death), it will be hard for them to win a game.

What exactly does Team GB have to do to qualify for the 2012 Olympics?

Nothing at all. They already qualified. The host gets an automatic berth.

Oh, I thought since Team GB hasn't had an Olympic basketball team in a long time, they had to qualify through play.

Thanks for the info, though!

TTF!

How did GB do in the tournament they hosted? Are they expected to get out of group c?

If you're talking about the "Game On The O2" Tournament, they didn't do so well by finishing 0-3. As for getting out of Group C, I think GB can beat out Slovenia for third place.

Actually they're only mostly qualified. FIBA won't let them in the Olympic tourny if they are in Group B (second tier of Europe) in 2012. Of course since they made Eurobasket this year, the only way that happens is if they have a cataclysmic failure next year. So barring disaster they're fine.

If they don't qualify for 2010, they don't deserve to be a wildcard. They only became relevant this year.

Can Team GB, with Gordon, Deng, Azubuike, and Bonsu, defeat Spain? I say so.

No

They have not point guard or any legitimate big men. Deng and Gordon can easily be stopped.

Play Gordon at the point, Azu at the two, and Deng at the three. Pop's is a rebounding machine and a good five for international play.
