Kevin Widemond, a PG with 23 years old, native from Newark, NJ, who played in college at Texas A&M, has died in the halftime of a game of the Portuguese league.
It was in the locker-room during the interval of the game. He was sitting in a chair, listening his coach, and suddenly he just falls inanimate.
Immediately the doctors began the process of resuscitate, but his heart did not respond. The proceedings continue in the ambulance, and then in the hospital, but unfortunately all the efforts to bring back to life the poor Kevin were in vain. He died of a cardio sudden death.
It was another dramatic death who happened in the Portuguese basketball. I still remember with horror the way like the Portuguese national team captain (Paulo Pinto) died (I was present in the Arena) in 2002.
To me, the most touching moment of this drama was to see his teammates hugging each others and crying out in despair. A terrific and painful image.
R.I.P. Kevin
