man, the euroleague is really more entertaining than the nba

Post#1 » by Mr. Savage » Thu Jan 28, 2010 9:29 pm

currently wathcing olympiakos vs. cja laboral and man...the euroleague is so much better to watch.

the refs actually let them play, there are no star calls at all, the play is very physical. also there is so much more ball movement, players play more unselfish and move so much more off the ball.

the nba compared to that is just isolation basketball, simply because it leads to touch fouls being calls. just give the ball to your star player and let him initiate contact then hope for a whistle which is blown 80% of the time.

watching both leaugues it is hard to argue against the euroleague being more entertaining, simply because the rules and the refs encourage a more fundamentally sound and especially FLUID game without nearly as much interruptions as in the nba.

the nba can sometimes be so boring because it is so much isolation and so much grinding and subsequent bailing out by the refs rather than ball movement, off ball move ment by players and a healthy dose of physicality.

I second this.
I even put NCAA basketball ahead of the NBA's product right now.

I watch a lot of Euroleague becuase its in normal hours here and not 3 AM like most nba games, but NBA is much more fun to watch IMO, but thats obviously a matter of taste...

Who doesn't like watching guys pass the ball around the three point line for 25 seconds. Aimless passing is awesome!!!

man it is almost as good as bulldozing to the basket getting a bailout call and freethrows 80% of the time.

i mean, brandon jennings could not do much in the euroleague but used to play fairly well in his first nba games.

Lol at this. "More physical." People overlook how much contact there is in NBA games. There's a reason NBA referees call so much too and that's because we have 82 games and not 30. 50 if you compete in domestic leagues and the Euroleague.

European basketball is entertaining but to say it's a better product than the NBA is a complete joke. The NBA is faster, quicker, more skilled, bigger, etc. etc. etc.

Not really. That is like saying MLS is more entertaining than the Premier League.

I absolutely agree.

By the way, I like to see players working in the post, like Gasol, Bogut, TD..., and in the Euroleague, because of the spacing, I don't see that kind of plays too often.

Oh, and other thing to dislike the NBA:

The freaking timeouts. Loooooooooong and boooooooring. The last minute of an NBA game lasts like 32 hours.

Actually you are wrong.
Most Euroleague teams play from 65-80 games in a season, because they have the Euroleague, the domestic league, the domestic cup, and some of them play in some other league like the Adriatic league, VTB league or the baltic league.

And yeah the NBA's biggest setback are the looongg timeouts, and there are so frigging many of them its just crazy.

Also IB4 this thread gets moved to the international board and dies a slow and lonely death.

By the OP's standards, the WNBA is more entertaining than the NBA also.

yeah it is not even about the game itself sometimes but about things like timeouts that drag nba games soo long.

especially for a person from europe, who is tired at 3 or 4 am to have these constant interruptions can be really annoying and therefore also take away from the entertainment

Is there an internet resource for the Euroleague?

The problem with the NBA comes, like most problems in the US (haha), from the top down. In the NBA, the owners and the finances > The Game.

If you've got owners who demand guaranteed constant business revenue, eliminating the chance of a promotion/relegation system like in football, the regular season will be one long trawl until the part of the season that actually matters.
If those owners want more advertising revenue, make viewers sit through hours of advertisements during timeouts and freethrows every goddamn game.

The system will eat itself.

You can find links to games on the classic sites that provide links to NBA games as well but i can't post them here.
