It's questionable at best whether that reunion would help or hurt fan support. A couple of the Orlando faithful I know are actually season ticket holders and they're on the fence about renewing (but probably will, given the 6th pick should be an exciting player) they both also said point-blank if Howard comes back their season tickets will not be picked back up and they likely won't be buying them in the future either.

Cliff's interview where he talked about Dwight not buying in on defense would also be a big deal. I'm willing to bet that Cliff wouldn't want Dwight again. I could be wrong ... maybe he thinks it works out on a younger team like Orlando will be ... but my sense is that the Cliff/Dwight days are over.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

The Magic front office implied in their Clifford introductory press conference that our teams under him did the best they reasonably could, but didn't perform any better because the roster lacked talent. Compared to the upper tier of the league I'd certainly agree that we lack talent, but the Magic guys throwing stones at our roster makes me a little angry.

To Clifford's credit he has a lot more tact than that. I was glad the team moved on from him, but I still wish him well as long as he's not playing the Hornets.

You guys clearly have way more talent than us. Honestly if that is what our front office has to say to bolster good opinion of their new hire then we are in big trouble! It was an unprofessional and untrue assessment to make for sure! I can tell you I'd take Borrego back right now!

*ring ring ring*

"Maxiell residence, this is Jason speaking."

"Um, well, you know, it's Steve, um I'm coaching the Magic now and well, we've got a lot of kids on this roster and, well, the veterans in this league will tell you this, they're too busy playing Nintendo to pick up the plays so I'm gonna, um, need some veterans. You in?"

"Uhhh, I've been out of the league for years, I don't think I've got anything left in the tank."

"Ah c'mon, you can't be much more out of shape since I had you in Charlotte, you been playing any at all?"

"Well, I joined a pickleball league at the Rec Center..."

"Um, well, that's great. I need you to play over this African kid again. He's always talking about books, really annoying. Patrick never read anything, not even a street sign, you gotta buy in to basketball, that's what the vets will tell you, you know?"

Yeah, feels like that has to be an interesting proposition for them. He can give them the same sales pitch that we got for Big Al - Cliff can design a system around him that can elevate them to respectability while simultaneously building stability for the franchise. Not sure how attractive that would be for them.

I think it will be very attractive to them. It may have even been a factor for hiring Clifford in the first place. . The question on our side is what would we want from them?

"I have little doubt that they'd be happy to bring Dwight back to Orlando"

Uh - no!

He's the lead assistant for Carlisle in Dallas already, he definitely upgraded.

The animosity is very strong. Cliff is dense as hell though, so he probably doesn't realize or give a damn anyway. I'd love to drop D12 on them for something semi-useful, but it really isn't in Orlando's best interest on the basketball or business side.

Cliff is going to flame out hard down there, I'm afraid. He is not an improvement on Vogel, nor a breath of fresh air in terms of basketball philosophy. One less division rival to be concerned about.

This is spot on.

As a Magic fan, I wouldn't mind having Dwight back.....but a lot of fans are still pissed at him. Not sure how that would pan out....

Will coach Clifford bring back his former assistants? Delany is now in Washington, Hetzel in Portland, and Kreutzer is still in Orlando. Mark Price is a free agent right now and it will be nice to have a shooting coach again.

If he's going to tap someone from Brooklyn, I hope it's Vanterpool. Clifford looks like a stopgap hire in which I am cautiously optimistic. Having someone like Vanterpool or Jay Hernandez in the staff can help if/when this team transitions to a younger head coach.

 :banghead: Ok everybody needs to stop whining and get behind Cliff. Honestly between Mitch,Cliff,The team and Michael, I think we can go 46-36 next year and at least win a 1st round playoff series. I hope we dump Bridges,Washington and Rosier and get back some Stud veterans who play defense and score. Fournier and Harris and even Kemba can help this team. Build the team around Ball, Williams,Cody Martin,Thor,Oubre and Hayward. Yes Hayward  The Days of the Hornets being 30th ranked on defense are over. :eek2: :curse: Our new motto is "Defense First"

Feels unnecessary to have two Cliff threads.

This one is from 2018 and his 1st go around.

Let's keep all new things Cliff related in his new thread for this go around.
