Great article. These guys seem to know what they're doing and will spend their money to make sure that things are happening.
One take away, we want to be better this year but still soft tanking. I think next year they go for it.
It seems like they want the 1st round pick this season and have the deal convert to 2 seconds.
Honestly seems like the right play as most of the guys are still too young and East has too many vet contenders.

NBA success is cyclical, you don't just execute a 9 phase plan and "make it"
even the Celtics were a trashfire for like 15 years

the only way to break the cycle is to be in Cali or Miami and have stars demanding to play for your city. that aint happenin in Charlotte even if they make the first trillion dollar workout facility and put Sydney Sweeney on the player performance staff

i'd be happy with one or two decent cycles before i'm dead though

Even when you have 2 potential superstars at your foundation like Tatum & Brown (eventually LaMelo & Miller hopefully) you still work through multiple transactions and pay out big contracts before settling on those complementary pieces that fit the timeline of your 2 superstars.

Boston acquired most of their impact guys through trades even after being so fortunate to strike gold twice in the high lottery with Tatum & Brown.

Derrick White? Trade, maybe 2 firsts? Then a mammoth contract.

Porzingis? Trade, maybe 1 first, then a big contract.

Jrue Holiday? Trade, 2 first round picks, a massive contract.

Horford? Trade

That's 3/5 starters spanning many big time contracts mixed in like Hayward & Kyrie.
It has been written...

Solid read in the Athletic, not much new info but very well written: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5867493/2024/10/30/lamelo-ball-brandon-miller-hornets-identity/

Sunset he can join Mitch in the you've been fired but we're too nice to call it that so we're going to let you hang around on our payroll for a minute.

Psh, fancy new staff is too good for the old "rub some dirt on it" routine. Franchise is unrecognizable.
