WTF?

Does Peterson sit around drinking wine, and just gets drunk enough to burp a deal like this?

Throw a damn dart at your back yard….would be just as impactful as this deal.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Basically trading the 50th pick for the 37th pick.

We were extremely active at the last trade deadline. I think it makes sense to wait until we actually get past the deadline this year before we complain about how active we are (which kind of ignores the fact that we made a different trade like 2 weeks ago), especially given the fact that it seems pretty clear that this trade is motivated at least in part to fit in to other deals.

Maybe I missed something so forgive me but where exactly does this statement come from?

Nothing specifically reported in terms of expected follow up, but over on the T&T thread HornetJail speculated that this has something to do with the fact that apparently the 2030 Nuggets pick we got was actually conditional and that DEN traded a conditional 2029 1st in a separate deal that converts to a 2030 2nd. This trade gets us a guaranteed 2nd instead of a conditional one.

It doesn't really make sense for OKC to trade a guaranteed pick for a conditional one, so seems like there has to be some other deal being contemplated in order for this trade to make sense for them.

Thanks for that info, gives me some hope. I guess the Bulls want a sure thing as part of our upcoming Lonzo gamble. Don’t get me wrong…I can see the potential in getting Bro here…but it would be a modest deal all things considered.

Bobby Marks suggests that maybe OKC did this just to benefit from locking up the pick. Not totally tracking the logic, but seems maybe both sides removed conditions by this move.

yup, and OKC owns the Denver pick that would trigger the protection on the 2nd we held. so clearly there's something going down with DEN and they want to adjust the protection on their 2029 1st

We benefit both with getting a guaranteed pick and the very high likelihood that the Suns are complete trash in 2029
