Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
I am just not sure I have a lot of faith in Peterson. The roster is terrible, this just made us worse and I am not sure LaMelo is going to continue to see us willingly give up talent for random draft picks in the future that Peterson is hoarding. Maybe he will surprise me and flip them into something worth keeping LaMelo around but right now it just seems like he is playing a game of tearing the team down and trying to turn us into OKC so he can pat himself on the back like he is Sam Presti.

Is Jaylin Williams a target. Smug Branson of Locked on Hornets suggested it when we swapped 2nd rounders with OKC. They have Chet and Hartenstein.
It has been written...

1-3 spots of the future are filled with Melo, Knecht and Miller. With Mann being an RFA, he should be moved for something tomorrow, and they should be looking at possible deals for Green, Micic, and Bridges. Even possibly rerouting Reddish.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Since Nnaji has been waived, i assume there might be some draft and stash on a european prospect
Badly need a durable good defender at the 5 though. Weird timing to trade Williams (even though the return should be better than some are saying). Especially in a draft where most of the best players (i did not say all) are wings or guards. But if he cant play most of the time...
Maybe Knecht could get the Hornets a decent 2026th pick though (another promising draft in terms of depth). He might be a profile OKC might have their eyes on

Yep, Hornets either have moves in process, or they are backed into a corner and will trade players plus assets to get them off the roster. Yep, taking it up their assets in the worst way. When they hired Peterson, knowing his experience was with the Nets gave me a bad feeling. I keep getting those feelings with every move he makes.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Steve Kerr agrees with you, yb. Last night:
"I think the league should consider making the trade deadline at the All-Star break just so you don’t have to face these games where guys are getting traded a half an hour before a game and you’re trying to process the emotions and win a game," Kerr said. "I don’t know if that’s possible, but it would be great if you made the last possible days before the deadline off days. I don’t know how you do it but these are tough days, for sure."

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Probably my least favorite part of the NBA trade deadline is a bunch of "NBA accounts" show up every year claiming to have sources. Where they just aggregate nba writers and rumors. Then when the trade happens they quote themselves like they did anything other than copy and paste stuff off twitter.
Seems like we have a few of those that are Hornets fans now. Probably one of our posters here doing it lol.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Sitting here with 2 hours 20 minutes till the deadline, the Hornets HAVE to get out of 2 contracts in order to both complete the Williams swap for 2 players AND secure a spot to sign Moose beyond his 2 way deal. Whether we’re dealing multiple players for some impact player, or just trying to unload several somewhere, it could cost Petey one of his precious 1st rounders to get that done.
Be prepared for anything. The cupboard may be a little less full by 4PM.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
I think they are pretty locked into their current salaries going into the offseason. They can't really create any relevant cap space by renouncing Okogie, so I assume they will keep him and also Mann's cap hold and operate over the cap.
1 ~ LaMelo Ball ~ $37,958,760
2 ~ Miles Bridges ~ $25,000,000
3 ~ Jusuf Nurkic ~ $19,375,000
4 ~ Tre Mann ~ $14,725,119 (cap hold)
5 ~ Josh Green ~ $13,666,667
6 ~ Grant Williams ~ $13,645,500
7 ~ Brandon Miller ~ $11,968,800
8 ~ Tidjane Salaun ~ $7,863,240
9 ~ Josh Okogie ~ $7,750,000
10 ~ Mark Williams ~ $6,276,531
11 ~ Nick Smith Jr ~ $2,710,680
12 ~ Moussa Diabate ~ $2,270,735
total: $163,211,032 (cap = $154,647,000)
That puts them with the following 12 man roster + assets going into the offseason.
starters: LaMelo ~ Okogie ~ Miller ~ Miles ~ Mark
bench 5: Mann ~ NSJr ~ Green ~ Grant ~ Diabate
depth: Salaun ~ Nurkic
+ MLE
+ 2025 1st (1-7)
+ 2025 2nd (32)
+ 2025 2nd (34)
They'll own all their future 1sts and will have three extra 1sts plus a bunch of extra 2nds. Theyll be limited with what they can do with salary cap (just MLE and any exceptions), but they'll be able to add a big injection of talent through the draft and will be one of the better positioned teams to make a splash trade. On paper their roster doesn't even look bad if they could actually get most of their guys healthy for an extended period of time. I would keep their 2025 1st and prefer to keep both 2025 2nds, but I would be willing to come off the 2nds if they find the right splash trade before the draft.
They should actually have a pretty deep team next season and if they keep the 2nds they should also have some interesting talent developing in Greensboro. They are still in a pretty good situation imo and the front office doesn't have any excuse if they can't do something with this position, especially if they get a little lucky in the draft lottery.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Ingram got extended for 3 years for 120mil
40mil a year not bad. Seems like we missed a chance to add a good talent for cheap.
Raptors did the smart move they lacked talent so they went out got a guy who has all-star potential for cheap added to Barnes and they still get to tank for Flagg.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
might be unpopular but Ingram isn't a $40M guy when healthy. the contract kinda screams Hayward/Batum downside to me. Low 30s probably would've been my cutoff but even then that's a reach for me. He's barely played more games than Hayward over the last 6 full seasons (2018-2024), and that's usually not something that gets better with age
investigate Adam Silver

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Id rather be paying Miles $25 million than Ingram $40 million.
Same length deals but no player option also for Miles.

Re: 2025 Trade Deadline Thread
Well we better start drafting well because trades are the only way to bring in talent for this franchise.
I wish we could go out and sign star FAs, but that just isn't realistic.
