I only trade for Zion if we don't get a top 3 pick.

People may say LaMelo and Zion can't stay healthy. But we wouldn't be committed to Zion long term. The thing is when Zion plays he's a all-star caliber player. The problem is he like Melo can't stay healthy.

Zion is the kind of player who will put fans in the seats and give the franchise new excitement. If we can't get Flagg/Harper/Bailey why not go get Zion. No other player in this draft will bring the talent Zion brings.

Who are we bidding against that is offering up a top 5 pick for Zion though?

We don't need to offer that to beat the offers of Lakers, Suns, Hawks who maybe pick 14th at the highest.

Jazz, Wizards, Pelicans are other 3 worst teams...

As long as we are not giving up future 1st I would be fine. Zion talent is still all-star caliber. The key is him staying healthy. If we only trading our pick this year outside the top 3 I say go for it.

If we can get him without the picks that's even better, but highly unlikely.

I think it is easy to have this mindset after 1. An overall very bad draft last year. 2. Tidjane being our most recent selection.

but historically even at pick 4 and 5 you have a 1/3 chance of drafting an NBA all-star.

I would rather take that swing on the pick in the top 5. Then look to use our extra picks in 26,27,28 to add a proven talent whether that is Zion or someone else.

Adding Zion is the opposite of 'not skipping steps' as Peterson claimed he'd be doing this offseason.

forgive me for not giving a **** about GM speak after listening to Kupchak's drivel about being patient and building through the draft only to punt the whole thing out the window when he got a chance to sign Hayward

I'm not taking it as gospel, just pointing out the exit interviews don't match the rumor.
