Charlotte sends Miles Bridges, Nick Smith Jr, Tidjane Salaun and a 2027 first-round pick (Via DAL) for PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford.

Strangely I’d prefer to not include Tiddy, because we really have no backup PF other than Grant Williams, who won’t be ready right out of the gate. It would possibly take additional 2nd round picks for the Mavs to consider, but I’d make that deal. Gafford is a solid starting 5, not great, but much better than our current situation. PJ is still a good PF, doesn’t have the baggage of Miles.

But again I don’t see Dallas or Jeffie pulling the trigger on this.

Problem is both those guys are on one year deal. That 27 mavs pick is going to be locked into a cheap contract until 2031.

Gafford is signed thru '28-29. Mavs signed him to a 3 year $54 mil extension at the beginning of the offseason.

I can’t decide if that makes him more or less attractive.

I would offer Sexton, one of those crappy late firsts, josh green, for Gafford and PJ.

If they don’t like it we just wait for something better to come along.

Gafford is a slightly above average role player who is paid like a pseudo star. PJ is the most valuable piece and he is on an expiring deal.

maybe Noa Kouakou-Heugue?

Indeed, i spoke about him somewhere else. He's more advanced than Coulibaly, has good size, fundamentals.. Good shooting too, but his defense is what defines him the best (he's a pest with great mobility and focus either in 1/1 or as part of team defense). Team player though, not really an alpha in the making, but strong support player at worst. Curious to see how he develops his body, that will most likely be critical in his positioning on the court
Hard not to get some Bridges vibes with him (Mykal, the good one). Got to develop a midrange game though and provoke more to finish at the line (among other things).

Perth coach isn't big on defense but hopefully he gets a chance to develop. Like I said before, I don't rate him as a coach.

been intrigued by him so far, i like his handles and passing for a big. He is learning from Wagstaff, a wiley old Australian vet who knows all the tricks to help out on defense. Wagstaff would be a fantastic mentor, he's used his smarts to last in the league for a very long time.

I think that's the truth of it. Yes, Gafford would be a clear upgrade from what we have, but is he worth spending future assets on? not really.

I would say YES to getting Gafford. There is no star center we can trade for. We don’t have anyone on this team that will develop into a star center…nowhere close. Moussa might keep progressing but he’s far away from being a solid starting center.

A new proposal on Hornets SI again promotes trading for Gafford, using Green, Salaun and Dallas 2027 first round pick. Probably neither team would do that. Dallas knows he’s likely worth more of a return. Jeffie loves his TJ, so can’t see him giving him up. That 2027 pick? It’s a dog, not likely to be even top 20, in a HORRIBLE projected draft class. Would prefer to include a different big like Williams, but if it takes Salaun I’d gladly do this deal. Article linked below:

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'd trade them one of the picks Phoenix gave us, not the Dallas 1st. Not that I expect it to be super high, but that team is a ticking time bomb. Kyrie is a time bomb (due to injury and uhhhh... himself in general), AD's entire body is a time bomb, their front office is a time bomb. There's enough of a chance of that pick being okay that I'd hold onto it. At best, it's a late lotto pick though, there's enough talent for them to stay afloat but I'm taking a gamble on the upside vs Gafford.

I would trade the 2026 pick from PHX, a bunch of 2nds and whatever filler (whether it's Green or they insist on an expiring) for Gafford
investigate Adam Silver

The 2026 draft is deep and loaded at the top…believe me 2027 pick is much less valuable. But at this point I don’t see a viable means of obtaining a true starting caliber center better than Gafford, so whatever isn’t obscene would get my attention.
