Fair.

Though it's worth noting what I said in that thread discussing Amen Thompson. 40 mil is gonna be about 25% of the cap, or about 01 Vlade Divac money. It's a lot less than it sounds like. If he realizes even half of his potential on offense, that's a pretty significant deal. 20 ppg on just about league-average efficiency is late-stage Klay or Jaylen Brown type territory. And if he gets some passing support, that 3P% is going to rise, which will take his TS% with it.

Just something to chew on when pondering his future, yeah? Again, I don't watch enough Charlotte ball to know if he's getting in his own way with shot selection and stuff like that, but he's got an exceptionally low level of passing support on his 3s relative to a lot of other guys, so it's an area to ponder, given how well he's shooting ATB 3s to date in his career.

And there's still some room for Knueppel to show a little more to his game, which would also be nice to see, right?

The raw dollar amount is irrelevant to me. I understand salary drift.

I'm more concerned about that ~25% of the salary cap and whether or not he projects to be worthy of what should be the accompanying expectations.

Nobody is saying he can't improve, nobody is saying he doesn't have positive attributes. They are saying he's having another wasted off-season, shortened year, in a role that likely doesn't suit him, leading to a contract dispute(?) based upon limited insight into his future.

And, again, I'm also dubious of the logic train that follows trading Melo just to give Miller a big contract. It would be out of character for the FOs recent behavior.

P. s. sure Kon does, who is disputing that? And what does that have to do with the Miller conversation?

All possible, I'm sure.

Yes, that follows.

No one is disputing that. But perhaps if Kon is able to provide a little more on-ball action, it could be additive to Miller unlocking some more of his off-ball game, alleviating some defensive pressure, increasing his efficiency, etc.

We get it Miller is not that guy and you don't want to pay him. Keep that same energy when he proves he's the best player on the team.

You keep making this "best player on the team" argument over and over again

1. who is disputing that?

2. why is it relevant?

Gerald Henderson was the best player on the 11-12 Bobcats.

My son was by far the best player on his T-ball team last year. That clearly means he's going pro or something
You rather talk negative about a player?

Go to the Kon thread you're not getting this negativity.

HIs numbers were good last year for a 23 year old. I would give him a deal.

If he hasn't shown enough flashes at 23 to break out the checkbook, stop drafting guys who are 18,19,20, or 21.

This is maybe the best and most accurate analysis I have heard from any media people about Brandon Miller or any Hornets player in a long time. Spot on in basically every way.

Basically they accurately pointed out that he's a very good but flawed wing that's lost a lot of development time to injury, that we don't know what he looks like without a premier playmaker next to him, and they said they'd try to get him around 5/160M, or just wait it out till next offseason and use year 4 as a prove-it year. If he blows up and plays like a max player, then you sign him to one and you're happy about it.

My number is probably right there as well, I might bend to 5/175M or even slightly higher but they basically nailed exactly what I've been saying about Miller's extension situation all summer.

They compared his situation to two other top 3 pick SFs coming off rookie contracts in RJ Barrett, who got about 18% of the cap on an extension (roughly the number they mentioned before) and Brandon Ingram, who bet on himself, played like an all-star and locked down a max as a RFA. Both feasible outcomes.

Any decent player with fringe all-star ability will get paid.

Sorry oldheads this is the new NBA.

Jalen Green literally got 36mil a year.

Yeah it sucks, but you have to adapt to the current landscape of the NBA. Pretty soon the best players in the league will be making 100mil a year.

I usually don't seek attention, but please im begging you guys to seriously look at my point of view. I'm not saying Miller is worth 40mil, im saying the league as a whole sets the market for those young players who flirt with all-star ability.

Miller is on that borderline. That alone will get him paid. Please trust me on this. This contract debate is kind of a moot point. We aren't getting a discount.

Either we trade Milller or sign him there is no in between.

If the clippers have the cap space they will max Miller out

I’d be comfortable letting Brandon walk at a max based on what I’ve seen so far. Not ideal roster management but that’s what you get when you drag your feet on putting competitive rosters on the floor when you have cost effective talent.

What does it say about us that we draft these players and move on when it's time to pay them?

Mark/Melo/Miller

It's hard to build something when you trade your building blocks. There is no plan in place. Our GM is obsessed with draft picks in which he's not cashing in on those assets.

Melo was still cost effective for his talent for 3 years, Miller won’t be at a max. They should have cashed out on Miller and tried to do something while Kon is mega cost effective.
Instead they’ll overpay Miller and slow build into Kon and Miller on rookie maxes, not make the playoffs and say it’s unsustainable and be in the same spot again

He is 100% getting traded.

The front office wants a team friendly deal so that they can maximize trade return.

If I was Brandon I would say full max or qualifying offer please.

Brandon has shaky credibility as a max guy.

Hornets have zero credibility as a team that wants to take care of players, try to win, pay guys what they are worth, spend the money it takes to win....ect, ect, ect......

Hornets are like an ugly girl holding out for a guy that is 6'3'', 8 figure salary, nice and funny... has witty banter....

we are not in the game, we are just pretending we might be someday

The Hornets 100 percent made the right decision on Mark and I will defend that decision until our robot overlords heat up the planet into a fireball or until Mark Williams makes an All Star team or an All NBA team or all Defensive team.

Fragile - no D - poor effort - fake stats guy
Moose, Kalk, Hannes will be much better for the team

I agree on Mark. Not so much on LaMelo.
