Interesting Swish article

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Fri Feb 29, 2008 3:08 am

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba ... dson_N.htm

Points of interest:

"In Golden State, Jason was used to a lot of catch-and-shoot, high-tempo, lots of speed," Charlotte coach Sam Vincent says. "Here we're running more sets."

If by "sets" Vincent actually means "no organization, 99% iso, hit and hope stuff" I can see it.

In his first month with the Bobcats, Richardson averaged 16.9 points. But since Jan. 1, he's averaged 22.1 points.

"It was tough at first," Richardson says. "All I wanted to do was get up and down the court and run, run, run. Some of the guys on the team were like, 'Man, don't you ever get tired?' I was like, 'I'm still in shape from being in Golden State.'

This sort of implies we are not a fit team IMO. Our cardo must suck - which suprises me considering the draft tryouts we run. It also explains why Swish often starts and runs the break and noone runs with him.

I think Felton and Okafor are definitely not in top NBA game shape. Especially Okafor who is always winded 2 minutes into the game.

So, between this, and the article where Brezec said that Vincent was trying to go more "run-and-gun," does that mean the reason we're not such a great running team is due to our players, and not the coach?

I think it's a little from colum A and a little from colum B. It the first statement Vincent says we are running more sets rather than run and gun like the GSW. That indicates it's the coach. But in the 2nd statement Swish seems to question the fitness level of our players - which is a worry IMO.

Our overall team basketball IQ has always been a concern.

The only way you get in good running game shape is by playing the running game in practice. A lot. Especially in summer camp. Very few teams commit to that. The Warriors are one of them. The Suns are another. Most other teams don't really do it, even the supposed running teams.

I don't see this as the Cats being specifically out of shape. Rather that they aren't in Suns/Warriors shape.
