Sam Vincent Vs Marc Iavaroni

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Thu Mar 27, 2008 1:22 pm

A LOT of people wanted Marc Iavaroni at the start of the year. Just wondering your thoughts now?

Both rookie coaches, both failing to meet expectations.

Who would you rather have now?

Geesh, I have to choose between these two???

I didn't want Iavaroni because I'd read last summer that he was VERY anal and was prone to nitpicking...figured that wouldn't work so well with a bunch of young guys. So far it's looking like that's the case in Memphis.

Sorry...imagine my vote being in that third category "None of the Above".

If we are going on rumors, why don't we fire the "next Avery" for the original Avery.

I'd take Marc Iavaroni 10 times out of 10 over Sam Vincent. At least this guy was a legitiment assistant for a while.

Not to mention his best player is Mike Miller, they play in the hardest division in the NBA, and traded away their lone all-star quality big man for cap space. Give the Bobcats to Iavaroni and we're a better team.

Ha!! I posted something similar on the Mavs board saying that if Cuban does axe Avery, we'll take him off their hands and they could have Vincent back.

They responed with "only if Okafor comes with him!!"

The sad thing is that could actually help us.

But i would trade Okafor for a better and more proven coach if I had to. Okafor as a throw-in is a really perverted idea.

Seems like Iavaroni may be out after 1 year......they are targeting Larry Brown. We need to jump them in line and get Brown instead.

2012 GMAT Christmas Edition : OKC Thunder

PG: DWill / Bayless
SG: DWade / VC / Grant Hill
SF: KD / MWP
PF: Ibaka / Landry
C : DMC / Dalembert / Kelly Olynyk

draft rites to Serey Karaey

This is a solid point. At least Iavaroni had a full roster to work with. Sam hasn't had that all year.

outside of may and ammo, we are as healthy as we have ever been. felton, jrich, okafor, dudley, nazr and carroll all played pretty much the entire season w/out injuries. of our top 7 rotation players, 6 of them were pretty much injury free all season. i dont think we can use the injury excuse this season.

i certainly believe that losing ammo and may hurt our chances of making a step from 33 wins to something like 40 wins. but i dont think their injuries had anything to do with us playing worse this season than last season.

nobody was really expecting may to contribute and most felt ammo was a negative (not me of course haha). our depth was exposed a bit without these two, but our starting core (minus wallace) has been healthy this season.

we have had zero major injuries since midway through training camp. wallace has been banged up at times and his injury might be considered "major" in the long term sense of things, but it really only caused him to miss a handful of games, most of which we won. there are not many teams in the league that can say they have not had any major injuries since mid-october.

so where is the progress? i think that is the troubling aspect of vincent. we have made virtually no progress during the season. i cant say that we are a noticeably better team now than we were in november. usually young teams and teams with young coaches (who dont suck) will show major improvement during the course of the season.

of course, this really has nothing to do with iavaroni vs vincent. i think the main difference between the two teams (minus gasol) is that we have way more talent and experience. they basically have 3 rookie pgs (conley, lowrey and navarro) and young players everywhere else (except miller). i also think gay is overrated. he puts up great stats but he doesnt seem to really impact the game in a way that leads to immediate victories. much like how a young ricky davis, corey maggette and to an extent jrich (when he was young) would put up great stats and have amazing highlights, yet none of it translated into a better team.

so basically, i feel pretty confident that iavaroni could do better with our roster than vincent has done. but.... both have still been disappointing. theus has impressed me the most of the rookie coaches.

Marc Iavaroni has disappointed, so it's not like he's making me regret not going after him; at the same time, Vincent has been awful, so I would take almost any coach other than him, because what's the worst they can do? Be awful too?

It's the same argument I've used in other situations...after this disappointing season, given two choices that are comparable, why not go with the choice that we aren't already stuck with? At best, they work in this situation and we do better; at worst, we keep sucking?
