Bobcats War Room - 2008 Draft - Round 2 - Charlotte @ # 38

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Wed Jun 11, 2008 11:20 am

Come one, come all Bobcats fans! We are at the most important selection of the 2nd round. For us, that is. The business at hand is what do we do with the # 38 pick now that we are on the clock? Panic of course!  Kidding aside, we now have an idea of who is left. We know our strengths and weaknesses. We know our areas of need. Now to put everything together and MAKE this a pick that will serve team needs into the future. We can not afford to blow this pick on a bust.

Our nine are the compilation of five different mock drafts composite rankings of the players remaining in the draft. To see the other 37, please refer to the Bobcats War Room Results sticky in the top grouping. So
without any more waiting... let's vote. Lurkers are welcome!

24 hours, one vote, nine candidates. Research well and bring us home a stud!

You guys may think that I have wasted my vote here. I went with Nikola Pekovic here. My reasoning... glad you asked. I wanted a position of need here- scratch those small forwards and shooting guards. I also conferred with the summary board, and at # 9 we had collectively selected Russell Westbrook, a point guard type. So out with the point guards.

So we are left with bigs. I chose the biggest guy in the group of nine, not because he was the biggest, but because as a Euro player, he is of an age where he probably has the most pro experience of this group. I'm not saying other choices are bad.. am just saying that Pekovic is my pick here, given what is left on the board.

Claw on. And if you are a Bobcat regular on this board, and have been lurking on this series without voting, please make an effort to vote this time! I'd appreciate it.

I said DJ White but I don't think he will be there at Charlotte's pick.

Pekovic has already made it clear he is not coming to the NBA. I wish he would, but if we pick him, we are just wasting our pick.

Not true. Pekovic has made it clear that he's not coming to the NBA next season and he has a contract with Panathinaikos or Olympiakos for the next couple of seasons, but since we'd be taking him in the 2nd round, it is far from a wasted pick b/c of the rookie salary scale. If it were a 1st round pick, then it would be a waste because he'd have to take a huge pay cut in order to come over.

Right. And another thing, second rounders would have to be truly exceptional to play as rookies. A Euro will have to acclimate, much as our Fabio did during his rookie year, but then lit up the league before the end of the season. Other teams stash players for later use...we better learn how to do that as well.

Our decision has been made! At pick # 38, our board has selected Nikola Pekovic, Center of KK Partizan Belgrade. He now joins the previous 37 players on our draft board!

Now, we shut down here, and move on to pick # 39. Claw on!
