Man up, Bobcats Fans!

Post#1 » by fluffernutter » Fri Jun 27, 2008 11:38 am

Jesus, I've never seen such whining, whimpering, and second-guessing.

We have a hall-of-fame coach who worked out Ajinca, targeted Ajinca, and got Ajinca. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that when Larry Brown says he was "blown away" by Ajinca, it means more than when a scout or run-of-the-mill fan sees a player and is "blown away." LB was stunned by Ajinca's physical tools, skill set, and willingness to learn and be coached. That's more than enough for me. What more do YOU need?

As for drafting a PG... Jesus Christ, we only have 1 PG on the roster! Do you want to go out and pick up another broken-down has-been like McInnis or "score on me at will" Boykins? What other team in the league features one, and only one, point guard?

We needed a PG to backup Felton or to challenge Felton, and we got one (or maybe 2).

We needed a big, and we got a big.

What else did you want out of this draft? We even made a clever move to grab 20 and get our target with it (Ajinca).

Man up, and rejoice for God's Sake.

ADDED BONUS: We also did NOT trade an established played for pennies to the dollar!

No complaints from this guy. I actually liked all the moves based on what I've read about the players. On boards where I'd say people aren't as, lets say basketball savvy, it seems people can't get past why we didn't pick Lopez/Bayless or think we're automatically trading Felton. I wonder sometimes why people think you can just throw guys out on the floor and their games mesh perfectly. They forget these guys are like pieces to a puzzle and guys have to compliment each other and fill voids and weakness of core players.

You all know I usually disagree wuth fluffer. But here I must agree completely. There is no reason not to believe that Larry Brown means what he is saying. There is no reason to pick Ajinca if they wouldn't love him. He won't sell tickets from day one. They had to know he can be unpopular pick considering who else was available. That's really only about the faith in Larry Brown. And from what I see from workouts and other clips I think we picked very wisely and all three players are great fits. The only other players I really wanted were Westbrook and Ibaka. We couldn't get them. I'm not sure we could do better somehow, I dunno what we would had to offer to get Spurs' pick (No.26) to get another PF and if it would be worth it. And maybe the whole thing about Spurs shopping their pick was just a smokescreen to strenghten the chance that Batum would slip to them.

I'm pleased by how we drafted.

For what its worth, I just check our war room results and we had Augustin at 8, Ajinca at 22, and Weaver at 34. I know the inherent flaws in doing a war room draft board over a long period of time and all that, but none of the regular visitors of this forum should be surprised by us getting players that we ranked so close to the spots where they were drafted. I think without a doubt Augustin and Weaver are really quality picks. While Ajinca can bust, he can also flourish and that's a risk I am okay with at pick 20.

I love the DJ pick. I love the Weaver pick. I am more than ok with the Ajinca pick.

I might have liked to find a way to trade the #20 with the GSW to land Randolph, but other than that, it's all good in the hood.

The only better outcome would have been landing Beasley or Mayo. Considering that didn't happen, I think we have come out with a B+.

Well a positive sign is LB getting Ajinca who is a project player at this point. Shows that LB is maybe making the commitment to being here a while.

Slam I disagree, as the draft got closer I wanted to steer away towards Randolph more. I just don't see him being a 4 in the league, I see him more as a 3. I think GS eventually wants Wright at PF and Randolph at SF.

Hahaha, great point.

Lots of people complaining about the picks, yet those are basically the same sort of picks that won in our votes.

no complaints here. i am happy with the draft. i love what i saw of weaver in that interview. i will be sad if felton is traded, but that's a different story all-together. i am excited to root for a euro on our team. yeah, ajinca has mega bust potential, but he also has huge upside. this is where i want to see what kind of coach lb really is. he got the players he wanted.

No excuses, the draft went exactly how LB wanted it go. If things go wrong not sure if you can blame Jordan.

I like this draft. I thought Brook Lopez was a good fit for the Bobcats, but I really don't have any problems with DJ. Giving Felton someone to push and/or replace him is not neccesarily a bad thing.

I like Alexis at 20. A 7'9" wingspan is never a bad thing. At 20 hes a really smart pick.

Kyle Weaver is someone I thought would/could make sense for this team. A 6'5" combo guard WHO CAN ACTUALLY run Point...not just be placed there, and play strong defense. Thats a nice pick. See Bernie, 2nd round picks actually matter.

----
I was suprised to see Memphis take Donte Green when they already have Warrick.
George Hill as a 1st round pick and Jason Thompson at 12 (see seniors matter) really suprised me.
Not to mention the "didn't you used to be_____" 2nd round; Chalmers at 34, Jordan at 35, Douglas-Roberts at 40, and BILL WALKER AT 47...and now hes a Celtic?!?!??!

So will Walker be a "NAME PLAYER" or a "james white" type story?
====
Now my real question.
MY THREE NEWEST PISTONS ARE;
Walter Sharpe- 18 games played in 3 seasons. Drafted out of the powerhouse of UAB???
Trent Plaisted??- He looks interesting based off what i'm reading about him on YahooSports.
Deron Washington- "Solid" 4 year player out of Virginia Tech who seems to be a "do everything/excel at nothing" type.

WHO KNOWS???

I think with his size and youth (meaning he still has some growing to do) he will be great as a mobile PF one day. I don't see him as a SF in SGW for as long as Nellie is there. Nellie likes his shooters and to bomb the ball. Ellis doesn't shoot the long ball and Randolph doesn't shoot the long ball. Weright doesn't shoot the long ball so unless Nellie does a 180 on the way he coaches, I just don't see how he fits there?

"Our" picks? How many times did you actually select a player rather than taking the "W_Hamilton" option?

I voted for Augustin, I can tell you that much :) In fact, outside of Rose/Beasley/Mayo, I think he was the only player I voted for.

And I was being nice.

I figured it would have been rude if I had said, "Lots of people complaining about the picks, yet those are basically the same sort of picks YOU ALL voted for."

I am in a happy mood, so I was being nice and including me in that so as to not sound as if I was talking down to everyone and insulting you all :)

To be honest, I was hoping Kevin Love would drop to the Bobcats. Either that or they were going to select Brook Lopez, who I thought was going to be a bust in the NBA. Nabbing DJ was a surprise but I see where LB and Jordan is coming from. They got a legit leader and pass-first guard in DJ. I love the Kyle Weaver pick. He reminds me of Aaron McKie. Ironically enough, McKie had his best years with LB.

He does have size but he is so dang thin, thinner than really thing guys. Plus not sure about his BB IQ, and he gets tons of turnovers. Just b/c of his weight I dont know if he will be able to score down the way i'd like. I agree, GS is a terrible fit.
