Potential Traders: Okafor's BYC!

Post#1 » by shrink » Wed Jul 23, 2008 4:17 am

I see spectre's getting the same point across here that I was making on the Trade Board -- that Okafor's BYC needs to be met for a poster to make a legitimate trade that works under the cba. Its unfortunate that on these boards you're getting pummeled by trades of poor value, but also aren't even legal!

Potential traders .. PLEASE read spectre's posts in the other trade threads before making offers and embarrasing yourselves.

To the Bobcats fans, if you're serious about trying to get something out of Okafor in a sign-and-trade, you're probably going to have to add a few players with decent salaries to the package, to make a large enough landing strip for potential traders to land, considering Okafor's BYC. My question to you is:

Who are your most likely players to add into a trade?

wallace if we were to get boozer somehow with maybe some picks also coming to us or like korver/harving

morrison if we can get someone worth our #2 and #3 picks in the lottery...(even tho they havnt compltely played up to those high picks)

rather not trade away may now since we've lost our post presence already...i wanna give him a chance since he was really good when healthy. could be a kevin love type player for us minus the passing

felton only if we get a decent PG in return as backup to augustin since i dont want to got witha 1 PG lineup like we did for a couple of games last year until we got boykins who isnt really a PG either

Thanks Shrink. I actually reposted your original post from the trade board on our other site to help explain things (with the link and credit o'course)...very well done.

As I just posted in another thread I'd guess Ammo/Hammer initially, Crash if the value is there coming back and maybe Felts if another PG like Billups is included. Nazr? I'm guessing not unless a very good C or even multiple Cs are coming back. We were looking for another C before all this came out so we're already weak at that position as is.

thanks shrink.

i think just about anyone except richardson could be in play if the right deal was on the table.

with nazr we'd have to get a big in return and with felton we'd have to get a pg in return, like azn mentioned.

LOL! In my other post, I just took a guess, based on salaries and my admittedly limited knowledge of the Bobcats front office, and it looks like I started out on the right foot! I'll post those numbers, to give other posters a headstart:

shrink wrote: OTHER TEAM IN: $21.21 (Okafor $12 mil + Morrison $4.16 + Matt Carroll $5.05)
cba salary range: $16.89-$26.61 (125% + $100,000)

CHA OUT: $15.21 (Okafor $12 mil + Morrison $4.16 + Matt Carroll $5.05)
cba salary range: $12.09-$19.11 (125% + $100,000)

As you can see in this example, the outgoing package has to finish in the narrow landing strip of $16.89-$19.11 to meet the cba's financial guidelines for both teams.

For visiting trade-makers, you can follow the same formula to insert Felton or Gerald Wallace if you think the offer is talent-worthy, to make sure your offers are at least legal. The key will be to make sure the combined salary of the contracts you are sending out are between the range of $16.89-$19.11.

shrink and spectre and other capologists.... based on the example above i made a crude spreadsheet that took players salaries (in and out) and then calcuated the 125% range. i didnt factor in the 100k however, but i dont think that will make too much difference. here are some of the ranges i came up with for different pairings of players.

* felton and ammo are basically interchangeable
** the number range represents the total amount we could take back in a trade
*** i did all my calculations with okafor starting at 13 mil (which is probably a bit high, but it could always be frontloaded if needed)

okafor
dudley
carroll
14.75 - 16

okafor
may
carroll
15.525 - 17.75

okafor
carroll
13.575 - 14.5

okafor
ammo or felton
12.825 - 13.25

okafor
nazr
14.25 - 15.625

okafor
wallace
16.875 - 20

okafor
carroll
felton or ammo
16.65 - 19.625

okafor
nazr
wallace
21.375 - 27.5

does this look about right? in the ball park?

any other combinations you guys want to see?
