You never know. The 08 class didn't look like anything special a year ago, and then Randolph falls to us at #14. I'm not a homer about Warriors younguns - I haven't liked any of them except for Monta and Andris, and those are the two who turned out special, and I'll tell you right now Randolph is gonna be *good*.

Mmmm I don't know, might be pretty nice to get a top-5 and take Ricky Rubio.

Ricky might not be until the draft after, though?

It's worse than a sprain. It required surgery on the ligament in my avy. He's gone for most of the season.

I give Rubio a lot of credit being a 17yr old going against the US team and performing well. However, I am going to need to see a lot more of him before I am sold. He looks awfully small to me (and girl-ish, but that's besides the point).

You are preaching to the converted on Randolph. I watched him a lot during SL and was really, really impressed. I wish that he was a Bobcat. I think he's just what we need.

From everything I have read Rubio wont be around to draft for two or three years.

Griffin should be there next year, but you don't need a PF. Harden and DeRozen might be nice - although you already have some heavy investements at your wings.

Like you rightfully said though, it's a long time between now and next draft so a lot can happen and NCAA players make names for themselves.

I'd be surprised if that ends up being true, since he'll probably be a top-5 pick. As you've said, it's supposedly a weak class, and I fully expect some teams to fall in love with him. He's a 6'4" PG with great rebounding, passing, defense, and court vision... even if he can't shoot or jump, he'd be a major asset.

We'll see if he declares... as Slam points out, the strength of a class tends to improve as time goes on and people get impressed by youngsters who improve.

At the moment Rubio isn't that different to Rondo IMO.

Of course, that can change as time goes on.

Ricky is quite the controversial guy to project. I was withholding all judgement until the gold medal game. Having seen that I think he is quick enough to not be blown away in the nba. He won't be a speedster, but is fast enough. That should be enough with his skillset to insure at least a decent career as a top 10 starting PG, which makes him a top5 pick in most drafts.

Marcus Williams and CJ Watson will keep GSW competitive enough until Ellis' return to keep the Ws out of top pick contention. Brandon Jennings maybe would be an appropriate lottery pick?

You think a PG that can't shoot will be a top 10 PG in the NBA?

Do you think that Rondo is a top 10 PG?

He might think Jason Kidd is, and that's an actual upside for Rubio. Kidd had better wheels when he was young, but he was never a scorer or one to jump out of the gym. The question is whether Rubio can run the break well enough, or at least do something in the halfcourt other than pass. Personally I'm pretty enamored of his abilities, especially for an 18 year old, but I can see where Rondo (who certainly turned out to be top-10 pick worthy) might be a disappointment for some.

slam, always bashing my euro boys. rubio will be the greatest pg in the history of the nba!!!!! j/k.

i was expecting a little more flair to be honest. he's no pistol. but at 17, still very impressive.

but how about that dunk from RUDY and those step back 3s. bayless who?

Shooting is the easiest skill to add. Do you know who one of the worst shooters at the guard spot I've ever seen was as a rookie?

Jason Richardson.

BigSlam wrote:Do you think that Rondo is a top 10 PG?

Right now? Let's see, I'd put these ahead of him for sure (no particular order):
Nash, BDiddy, Billups, Arenas, Paul, DWilliams, TParker.

Kidd is probably better right now, but really I'm not sure that will be true very long at all.
Andre Miller is probably better.

Hinrich and the rest are worse. I'm guessing many will find that whack. So be it. I watched Rondo very carefully, and his defense was just off the charts. His lack of shot cost his team some good possessions, but his defense more than made up for it. And this was on the biggest stage, against amazing opponents. I have him as reason #1 that my predictions got blown up. I had (really) every single playoff series winner predicted correctly, all the way through, except I had the Lakers over Boston.

Funny side note.... the *2007* nba draft kit page had Rondo pegged at 16th best for that year, and that was before the year began. So my 9th or 10th doesn't look like such a reach. (Yes, I realize fantasy rankings are a separate beast, but close enough.)

But I don't really want to compare Rondo and Rubio. They are so very different.

Being one of the best defenders at his position in the league definitely elevates him up the standings. I would personally add Ford and Calderon for sure to that list, and would probably put him in with Devin Harris and Kidd for other excellent defenders with severe weaknesses. Top 10 or not, he's a very good player.
