TSN Season Preview : Charlotte Bobcats

Post#1 » by bballCT » Fri Sep 12, 2008 7:34 pm

PF - Gerald Wallace
Wallace is a superb talent that gets very little recognition (outside of Charlotte and fantasy leagues) because of where he plays. There is a chance that he would be less effective on a better team that wouldn't let him freelance so much, but any player capable of putting up averages of 19.4 points, 6 boards, 3.5 assists, 2.1 steals and a block a game have some real talent on their side to work with. Wallace's biggest issue is that he can't stay healthy enough to keep his team in the hunt. He's averaged just 65 games per season since arriving in Charlotte and the sheer variety of his injuries - from his shoulder to his groin - keep anyone from expecting durability after healing from Wallace. Perhaps in a system with less weight on his shoulders, he could find an easier time of staying on the active roster (he averaged 38.3 minutes per night last season banging with power forwards) but Charlotte would have to be willing to trade their most talented two-way player to find out. While they were ready to do it for Ford just before the draft, it is unlikely that many others players would tantalize the Bobcats enough to let him ply his trade elsewhere.

C - Emeka Okafor
Okafor has turned out to be exactly the player that he was projected to be when he came out of college four years ago. Minus the injuries, people figured he'd be a dependable big man who could play solid defense and block some shots while putting up decent offensive numbers. They said that his 'upside' was nil and it is turning out to be true. The good thing is that he played all 82 games last season for the first time in his career, but he also saw his scoring, rebounding and shot blocking numbers dip from the season before. Larry Brown has made solid NBA players out of guys like Dale Davis, Antonio Davis, Theo Ratliff and Tyrone Hill in his past coaching stops, and perhaps that is the perfect mold for Okafor. He may be the most talented of that bunch, but it is looking increasingly like that is the bunch that he belongs in - despite expectations and his hefty new contract.

Thanks for the find CB4rules and sharing.

What is a small 6'10"? As far as I am concerned, 6'10" is 6'10" - not matter how you slice it.

I still maintain that LB likes Felts. I think that it's Jordan that isn't a fan of his.

I think he was alluding to the fact that Okafor is not really 6'10 but rather closer to 6'9-6'9.5.

If memory serves, I think he was ~6'8.5 w/o shoes

I think everyone on the team has made it clear Felton is going to be the starter, and DJ "might" steal the position if he plays really well. LB said this not too long ago, effectively. Plus Hollins is 7 feet, right?

Wow...Soooo much wrong with this article.

The starting line-up is completely wrong, I don't think either Crash or LB are interested in continuing the Power Forward experiment. I think most people who didn't just breeze through box-scores would know that. Oh, and Felton will surely be starting at first.

Also...

Now he'll have only himself to blame when it turns out that Augustine, a shoot-first point guard, doesn't have it in him to play 'the right way'

This is just laughable.....While reading this I start to think that this guy probably only glanced at the summer-league box scores. And later I read this:

He was stellar in Summer League at scoring the ball against weak summer competition (19.7 per game), but he was reluctant to get others involved, averaging only 1.3 assists per game

Bingo.....

Well, what strong evidence......A few Summer league games, completely conclusive. Especially when there is no other available evidence like a long college career. I look forward to this guy's all NBA team featuring Mateen Cleaves and Nate Robinson.

At Texas they had to BEG DJ to take more shots, he is naturally unselfish to a fault. He took a lot of shots his last year because he had to. he is as pure PG as can be.

Also....

Okafor is now being paid like a franchise big man at $72 million over six years, but his 13.8 point average last season is more Chris Wilcox than Dwight Howard.

but he is small for his position

And how tall is this Mr. Howard that Mek should emulate? btw, another instance of this guys knowledge of the team coming purely from box-scores/line-up sheets.

One more....

This is a team with no seven-footers on the roster

Ryan Hollins and Alexis Ajinca might disagree.

I would put the over/under on the amount of time taken to write this article at 10min. I probably took longer on this post.

TSN should be embarrased....

I agree on the 10 minute prediction. This stupid fudger even spelled D.J.'s name wrong. Its AUGSTIN--no E. Its pretty hard to maintain credibility when you misspell the name of the 9th pick who has been in the national spotlight for two years.
