BBIQ/Player Mix

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Fri Nov 14, 2008 1:48 pm

It's something a lot of us have talked about a lot, and LB touches on it here when speaking about Ammo:

“Eventually, plays break down and then you've just got to play basketball, and you hope everybody plays with the IQ he has,'' Brown said. “I don't know if we have a lot of guys who have that feel'' for the game.

if the whole team played with the same iq as ammo on offense, we'd half much less problems scoring... at least in LBs offense. i just wish we could put ammo and dudley's brains in felton and wallace's bodies. that would help. maybe we can get okafor a new vagina as well.

closely watching our movement again last night (from the rafters)...

crash really only functions in isos and when the offense breaks down and he is forced to makes something happen. i'm not sure i've ever seen him pass on a fast break either. usually it works in his favor but there's been plenty of times he ignores a wide open teammate on the break.

carroll has no use in LBs offense outside of standing at the 3pt line and hoping for a wide open shot (which he got 3 or 4 last night and hit them).

shannon holds the ball way too long. while i love that he is always looking to probe the defense and try to get into the paint, many times is brings the entire offense to a standstill.

felton took one or two shots way too early in the shot clock, but other than that he was doing everything right on offense.

dj is still holding the ball too long and he spends too much time trying to get around screens. he's got to work on splitting those traps.

ammo moves better than anyone of offense. but, many times when he looks to drive and gets cut off he will dump the ball back outside, no matter who is standing there and regardless of time on the shot clock.

may is great in the pick and pop. i'd like to see him in the post more. he is still our best low post option.

okafor needs to stop fading away.

i's still waiting to see that jumper of ajinca's that we read so much about in the summer.

i'm loving jrich in the offense this year. more midrange, less 3s. i just wish LB would send him into the post more often.

Sean May had a decent game, praise Jesus. Ryan Hollins even did something.

This team needs to hire Charles Barkley (or even Rick Mahorn or Oakley) and get Okafor to have a killer mentality. 4 turnovers and 6 personal fouls in 24 minutes. That can't happen when you are owed $70 mil. Unless Isiah is running things and you're a Knick.

Whenever we do these reality checks, I think it's a very healthy exercise. I just wish we would remember the evidence when we evaluate potential trades of our players. We place so much value on these guys that many deals are never good enough for us. Ironically, the league's talent evaluation of our guys is much lower as we can't get any deal done, even with Crash.

Morrison has really started showing me something this year, and he actually might develop into a decent player. As his role is increased he is clearly becoming our 6th man.

The real question is this: if a player does not fit LB's system, will we get someone who could? Given Fat's evaluation of Crash, I question if he can ever fit. If Crash would get traded for Harrington, would Al be a better fit in LB's system versus Nellie's? Could J-Rich be a better player in LB's system as a SF (better defender on 3's versus quicker guards)?

This team is slowly improving. Still, the personnel we need just aren't here yet.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

^ Maybe it's not that our players have such low trade value but instead when other GMs think of Jordan as a negotiator they're picturing a big red lollipop?

He (and Bernie before him) has been taken in every trade (Mek trade notwithstanding...IMO that was more Baylor being an idiot). He's also trying to trade for "need". Everyone's going to low bid him. Let's just hope he doesn't bite so quickly this time.

Thing is a team needs someone they can go to who functions in isolation. Lots of times even a motion offense (something we're trying to do...not quite there yet) can't get an open look in 24 seconds. A player like Crash is indispensable.

I think I remember the fast break you're talking about...Ammo was the other player right? He was too close in to the paint where Crash was challenging the defender. IMO he did the right thing taking it straight to the hole.

and dont get me wrong. i love crash and i'm not trying to make a case for him to be moved. but, we need to understand what he is and what he isnt. crash is great because he can get you 20pts and fill up the stat sheet and you dont have to run plays for him. he'll get it on his own. but if we are counting on him to be the focal point of the offense (this offense) then its going to be rough. crash is great as a 3rd option, the guy you turn to when the offense breaks down or the guy who energizes the team and sparks a comeback. crash doesnt make his teammates better on most nights. he does not play is best within the system. crash is the ultimate garbage man.
