Bobcats Create Two Free Roster Spots

Fair to think that something might be going down or is this just getting rid of dead wood (although I did like the small amount I saw of Brown)

Wow. I don't think we would just waive A. Brown out of the blue like that when hes been active...so it has to mean we are bringing in more players than we are trading in the trade thats about to go down.

Which generally means quantity over quality.

Jordan making deals. Everyone should be worried just like me.

Oh, boy.

And I almost forgot about Brown and Johnson, until they were mentioned in the game thread last night.

I don't know why Brown wasn't playing them more. Especially Andre Brown. I thought he was pretty good; certainly better than most of the other options we have been trying at PF.

But you're right, it has to mean something.

It worries me that it is probably a big deal, too, like involving Wallace or somebody. If it was just for Felton and Carroll or something, it would be unlikely that we would be getting two players back, plus an additional two players. Even if that did happen, that would probably mean the talent we were getting back was pretty damn diluted, and probably not much better than Felton/Carroll/Brown/Johnson.

Again...oh, boy.

IF there is a deal going down and we cut 2 guys to facilitate getting more players back than we send out, they the main piece going out has to be Crash, Felts or Ammo - and even then, like I said, I think it would be quanity over quality.

With that said, I bet it's more a "non event" type trade and ends up being something like Hammer or Nazzy for a couple of expiring contracts - just to get out of their deals.

Can't see them trading Crash with Swish on the self. Can't see them trading Felts with only DJ on the roster. Can't see them trading Ammo............well, ok, they might, but they wouldn't get much in return!!

That's my guess anyway.

Guys:
Like you, I certainly assumed a trade must be imminent for them to waive two players. But from what I'm told, not necessarily so. They made a decision that Andre Brown and Linton Johnson weren't going to help. They likely will sign another big man this week -- I'll have more on that later -- but it won't be a name player.

Larry Brown would put his foot down if Jordan had a dumb trade in mind. He'd never let a McInnis fiasco happen. I fear MORE that someone good could be leaving over a crappy guy coming in.

Get a 4 or we win no more.

Johnson never showed me anything, Brown looked okay. I'll reserve judgement untill I see who we get instead. Brown was probably the 2nd or 3rd best rebounder on the team but that is almost all he did. (defense looked okay too, but didn't see enough of it to tell) His finishing around the hoop was bad, his MO seemed to be make a good play to get the offensive rebound and then miss the put-back. He also had way too many turnovers for as little as he touched the ball, and I think that is actually the main reason LB didn't play him.

If I had to guess I would say we'll add one free agent, and pick up an extra one on a trade too...

I was looking at the list of Free agents here:
http://hoopshype.com/free_agency.htm

PF
Antonio Mcdyess, PJ Brown, Juwan Howard, Robert Horry (would LOVE Mcdyess/Brown/Howard but we will certainly not be their first choice)

Lonny Baxter, Elton Brown, James Mays, Jackie Butler, Dale Davis, Michael Sweetney, Brent Pentway all stand-out for various reasons.

Alonzo and Dikember are still out there, who knows.....

If we sign one of those older veterans, can we cut them later in the season, then have them sign with one of the contenders?

If so, they could essentially be stashed away on our team, then released to sign with the contender of their choice as the season progresses. It would help us in the short-term, allow the veteran to wait and see how things play out with certain teams (ie, he probably wouldn't go to Detroit if two starters ended up having season-ending injuries), and he'd get a paycheck in the meantime.

I'm not sure that's allowed, though.

From the Observer minutes ago:

The Charlotte Bobcats plan to sign former Cleveland Cavaliers center Dwayne Jones to fill one of the roster spots they opened Wednesday, the Observer has learned.

AH.......ok. Need a guy to fill a spot. A player whos played with 3 teams and gotten a tad into the rotation. Seems we've been doing that lately with Hollins and Nazi. He's listed as a center. Seems strange, even with a warm body, to have 4 centers on your team...don't you think.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
