Dec 26th Hammers: Bobcats at Nets

Post#1 » by Walt Cronkite » Sat Dec 27, 2008 5:08 am

I don't think many people saw this one, I myself saw less than half, but we can't dismiss a win... plus it's a tradition.

Gold: Diaw- His shot with 3 minutes left won this one imo.
Silver: Wallace- Filled up the stat sheet, hit 3 big fts in a row a couple of minutes after hitting a three he hardly had any business making
Bronze: Okafor-I totally expect some voters to leave him out entirely, Brook got the best of him on a couple of offensive trips, but I was impressed.

HM- Felton-The hardest omission. He played well offensively and has to get credit for Harris's poor game, to me this one was won by the frontcourt.

Hopefully there are more people in the gt tomorrow, I won't be around until late at best. Go cats!

Oh, and another thing... +/- for the guys above:
Okafor= 16
Diaw=14
Wallace=10
Felton=2

I honestly had a lot of trouble rating my top 3, but did feel badish about leaving out Felts, although I'm sure others will more than make up for it. Made this edit to just kinda back up my inference that while Felts him big fts down the stretch and had a good night scoring (won't type shooting, 1-4 from 3), he kinda got lit up by the likes of Keyon Dooling I guess in the ~3 minutes more he was in the game than Okafor.

Gold - Felton
Silver - Wallace
Bronze - Mek

I decided to leave Diaw out for his 5 TO's although he wasn't so bad really. It is strange how well Ray defended Harris and how badly he handled Dooling, maybe he didn't take Dooling so seriously...

Wow! This is the hardest Hammer selection I've faced. 4 men rightfully deserve a Hammer, and there are only 3 to give out. Someone gets left off, and whomever it is will certainly have a great argument as to why they should have received a Hammer. I hate doing this.

Gold: Okafor - 21 pts and 9 reb and solid Defense

Silver : Diaw - 16 pts 8 reb 7 assts; an overall great game, stat stuffer game; but the 5 TO's will cost him a Hammer in the eyes of some, and I cannot argue that point.

Bronze: Crash - 16 pts and 13 reb

Bronze 2 or HM: I hate not giving Felton a Hammer tonight. 22 pts 2 reb 3 assts and terrific Defense on Harris tonight. If a Bronze can be split in half, I want to split one between Felton and Crash tonight. If Felton would have just had a few more assists, I think for sure it would have been Crash whom I would bump, but this is my selection.

Wow...am I the only one who saw the entire game? Well, it's still hard to pick out 3 as all of the starters did things to stand out and put this into the win column.

Gold - Diaw. As has been the norm his presence on the court makes the ball move and has everyone in a "pass first" mentality. Ohara brings up a legit point about his TOs but I feel that as time goes on those will reduce; most of the time they happend because a player is heading for a rebound vs. a pass. As someone mentioned (Walt?) that high arcing score in the 4th was a very needed/great shot.

Silver - Felton. I REALLY liked his game in this one. He didn't force shots and he actually hit THREE clutch shots...one in the 4th after they'd cut it to 2 or 4. His D on Harris was nothing short of outstanding; he kept him in front of him (til the 4th and the high pick roll/LB adjustment) and with his mates sagging down on the drives he kept him off his game the entire night.

Bronze - Crash. That article in the Observer about shot selection was perfect for the preview to last night's game. Crash is doing everything to contribute to our win...a consumate "team" player.

HM #1 - Mek. He's really developed a soft touch around the rim and he's become a nice force for us in the paint. I thought Lopez had too good of a game and at first Mek seemed a little intimidated by him...but Mek like usually does finds a way to make an inpact. His help D on the drives has really stepped up (maybe he's more comfortable going after them now with Diaw?) and he's getting back to the strong force he's been.

HM #2 - Bell. He was our scorer during the 1st quarter and helped to set the tone. His D on VC from sometime in the 2nd quarter thru the end of the game was outstanding...I think he only hit 1 shot til the end where he sank 2 3s in garbage time (and Crash was on him then). Even the Nets' commentators were saying how well he was sticking to him. Again, it helped that Mek & Co. were defending the paint so well, but this is the type of perimeter D we need on guys who can kill us from outside.

Very strong win!

Well i could only listen to the game on my computer,but from what i heard my awards go like this.

Gold- Diaw he simply filled the stat sheet and giving this team hope for the future.

Silver- Gforce a double-double and 6ast speaks for itself, like spectre said what a team player.

Bronze- I gonna go with felts here,because of his D on harris and his points.

HM- Goes to Okafor had to give it to someone and he had a nice game.

Truth, if you meander over to BobcatsPlanet before/at the start of the games we might can fix that...at least most of the time.

gold - Felton
silver - Okafor
bronze - Diaw

HM - Wallace

Really could've gone with any of those guys for a game ball in any order, but clutch shots are most important in my book.

If Felton really was heavily responsible for holding Harris to 10 or so below his average... that's really huge. I wasn't able to watch the game closely enough to tell. But if he did, that's worth the Gold. That's the difference in the game, easily.

Heavily responsible is a good line...but he wasn't solely responsible. Same with Bell on VC; I thought we did a great job of helping when both those guys drove.

Something I've mentioned before about Detroit in the past was how much I admired the way they're able to switch after picks so flawlessly and play such tight man D. I saw that twice last night; the guy would get picked, the "picker's" defender would make the switch and would be right in their grill keeping them out of the paint.

I'm flat loving our defense and our budding rotation on defense. That's going to be the basis if we're ever to take that next step.

Huh. If that is true LB will never trade Felton. He probably sees Felton as Eric Snow (version 2). The dude loves defensive PG's.
