He can be a good 20 minute a game backup who'll give you solid defense and zero (as in zero) offense. Totally uninvolved offensively. Think of 18 minutes, 2.5 pts, 5 rbs 1.3 blocks as really good production and you won't be disappointed. If he gets more minutes, he'll get more rebounds and blocks, but no more points.

WHY GOD WHY!!?!??!?!??! I guess I should say that Matt Carroll won't be the "defensive stopper" you've been looking for. Also;

The Bobcats have had Jahidi White, Primoz Brezec, Nazr Mohammed, Ryan Hollins, Jake Voshkul, and many others play Center for this organization.

We're not looking for Diop to come in and be this great defensive center or anything. The Bobcats basically need him to be able to play anywhere from 12-20 minutes a game clogging up the lane. Thats it. Larry Brown wanted Diop in the offseason. Larry didn't really care for Matt. Matts a Maverick and Diop is a Bobcat. Problem solved.

One issue. I just read the Mavericks board response to this trade. When you're thinking about Ryan Hollins potential, don't think Tyson Chandler...think more along the lines of Steven Hunter.

To be honest, I don't have a clue what LB is thinking about with these trades. However I do love that we moved two guys that weren't getting any pt for a guy that could be used for 20-25 minutes a game and to spell some time from Emeka and the other bigs. Diop is also a solid rebounder and shot blocker, something this team has lacked when Emeka is out off the floor. Overall a solid trade for us. I can't wait for the next deal.......we all know one is coming.

You know giving up Carroll and Hollins is nothing. Hollins is to dumb to play for LB and Carroll is still here his name is Adam Morrison now but Diop I think I am not gonna like either. He reminds me of Kwame Brown a little.

Can a Mavs fan clear this up? Does he fumble the ball like Kwame or just not shoot?

I see the writing on the wall though. I am really confused as to what direction the team is going in but the most obvious answer is there leaving all there options open. They can trade Wallace and Felton at anytime or sign Felton since DJ might turn out to be injury prone or they could trade Mek. I wouldn't be surprised if they used Diaw and Bell to lead the team with veteran leadership and veteran coach or if they traded them both in Feb.
Either way this trade doesn't mean much. They do have alot of french players. Is Tony Parker a fa soon or something?

I lol'd when I saw shamsports list Sagana's nickname as lasagna. I was working on something based on White Men Can't DIO(m)P, but lasagna is pretty funny too.

Alot of pg's need a couple years to get good ala Nash and Billups Harris and I have a feeling if we trade Felton we would be shooting ourselves in the foot and he would blossom.
I know I was on the get rid of Felts kick but we really need to send word to LB and Higgins and MJ to keep Felton.
Wallace as great as he is his athetism will run out in a couple years and I don't see his shot getting much better but Felton could be something for the next 10 years.

Dexmor, he just doesn't shoot. He's got decent hands (avgs. 1/2 turnover a game), and he plays most of the game around the basket. He's just got no offensive game. He's a terrible free throw shooter, and he doesn't go to the basket hard at all for a big man, so he can actually hurt you on the offensive end if you don't have plenty of scorers on the floor with him.

But again, he can play pretty good defense. Your posters have been making fun of my posts, which is ok, but when people get too excited over a minor trade like this, I worry that they're gonna expect too much from the incoming player, and I just think that Gana is a really nice guy. Don't wanna see charlotte fans turn on him later. I'm not saying you will, just saying I hope you don't.

For a minor trade, I think it was pretty fair. Both teams got what they wanted, somebody that fits a bench need. Dallas came out a little better on the financial side, which was important to them.

Good trade.

We are just poking some fun at you sweet daddy - no harm intended. I don't think that anyone thinks of this as a ground breaking trade. It's just the moving of two guys who were given questionable contracts.

he doesn't go to the basket hard at all for a big man,

Would you mind elaborating on this a little for me? By this, do you mean he can't finish with contact, he can't finish with power or is there more to it?

Diop is more long than strong, so he can't muscle anybody down low. Accordingly he doesn't have any kind of power game at all. When he gets the ball in close his best chance of scoring is to keep the ball high and put it off the glass. About the only time he dunks the ball is if it's uncontested. He doesn't challenge opposing centers with power moves.

His lack of upper body strength doesn't hurt him defensively because he plays good position defense, and his arms are so long. He is a shot blocker and rebounder strictly because of good defensive positioning and a really long wingspan.

Hope this helps a little.

A tale of two Diop's:

When Diop first came to Dallas he played pretty good. Everyone knows that a 7-footer with long arms can protect the rim well but the best part (and understated thing) about him is his versatility. For a pudgy big he does a heads-up job defending smaller, quicker players which was awesome during Avery's time when we'd switch picks a lot and guys like Barbosa or Parker would end up on him. He'd either keep them squarely in front or -- get this -- stab at the ball when they try to drive past him and pick their pocket clean. Sure he's a terrible rebounder, a foul magnet, and is probably the softest near-300-pounder I have ever seen (his upper body strength is total crap) but all things aside he was a good back-up center that at times made Damp irrelevant.

Then came the 07-08 season. For some reason Diop just stopped caring. He was no longer as good of a shotblocker, he was late on rotations, allowed too many penetrations, he was just pure and utter crap. That's why he was traded to New Jersey and everyone was saying he would have been nice against Paul (doubt it) which is why they re-signed him. But it's same old same old Diop.

Will a new scenery and a huge backer like Brown be the kick in the balls he needs? Maybe. We'll see.
