ESPN'S Rookie Ratings

D.J. Augustin, Bobcats
When talking about the best shooters in this rookie class, Augustin has to be on the short list. He's currently second in this class in true shooting percentage among all guards and tops the list for point guards. He was a very good shooter in college, so it's not surprising, but it is still impressive to have a TS% over 56 percent as a 21-year-old point guard.

The fact that he finishes strong at the rim makes him a tough guy to defend. And fouling him is a big mistake -- he has attempted 153 free throws this season and missed just 15 (90.2 percent).

What should also be included is the actual ranking of the players in this ongoing analysis:

1st - BROOK LOPEZ!!

12th - MARIO CHALMERS

DJ? He's currently 15th

Now, this ranking certainly isn't conclusive, nor translates into ROY consideration, but it is a considered analysis of the top 50 players YTD. Westbrook, Rose, Mayo and Love round out the top 5.
DON'T EVEN ASK ABOUT OUR THIN FRENCH FRY AJINCA  !

Yes, I'll say it AGAIN! Our draft was another missed opportunity. Now there's talk about how Okafor is not untouchable, since he's not really a true center, but doesn't have the skills to range out as a PF. GEE.....WHO FINALLY FIGURED THAT OUT??? Lopez would have played behind Okafor this season, but I bet he would be getting increased minutes and demonstrating he was our future at the 5. Chalmers would have backed up Felton beautifully and given us a clear alternative if Felts bolts. Does DJ do that? Yes, but with reservations about his defense. Ajinca? please....
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The fact that we're paying fatass Diop triple the amount that Lopez is making to do less than a quarter of what Lopez can do is what pisses me off.
Humble yourself.

Both are starters on their respective teams, DJ is not. It stands to reason they would rank higher - right?

Especially considering as a starter over 9 games, DJ's numbers are:

20ppg (on 50%/57%/89%)
3rpg
6apg
1spg

Lopez' numbers aren't very different from Okafor and he gets less mins. Plus he shoots FT's at over 80%... that must be nice.

I like DJ, but if you want to sit there and say Lopez wouldn't have been a good pick for us, you're disillusion. Big man > little man... just ask Bob Bass.

Lopez woulda been a good pick... if we didn't have Okafor. Lopez gets most/all of his playing time at the 5, and I would be willing to bet that he wouldn't do as well at the 4.

I like D.J., and I'm glad we took him. Even over Bayless.

It's hard to be dissappointed in DJ at this point. Lopez would have fit nicely and I'm not surprised Bobcats brass made the wrong pick but its only their rookie year. If Felton leaves, DJ will be a much more important pick.

At this point I don't even care if Lopez would have fit... since he's so good you take him just on principle, maybe we trade Okafor or Lopez later if they don't mesh so well. DJ wasn't a bad pick, but he probably wasn't the best pick.
