LB and his hypothetical French future

Post#1 » by Wzanzibar » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:19 pm

First I introduce myself : I'm French, I follow the NBA and especially the teams with Frenchies. But no homer. I read realgm forums to know how these teams actually do on the court, besides the stats.
Here's an interview of LB, that I translate for you guys with my average English :

Oakland (28/02/09)

Did you have some links with the French federation ?
Yes. I met the French coach & Crawford Palmer in the Olympic games in 2000. They came to see Boris ans Alexis and we talked.

Would you be interested in coaching the French national team ?
I don't know...I would really like help, however it would be, but I don't think the head coaching would be for me. I appreciate people involved in that organisation. In our league, there are so many great players from France. There are many young talents who are playing in Europe too so... I want to learn. And if the situation allows it, i'll be glad to help.

Which place could you take ?
We just talked, about Boris and Alexis above all. Again, il they ask me to help, i'll be very happy to do so. I'd like they talked to each other about it there. With the relationship I have with my two players, and with all the French players in the NBA, I'd like to help.

As a coach ? (Stupid stubborn interviewer)
I don't think so. I don't know if I have enough time for them, and there are many great coaches there, who know the international game better than me, even if I had the luck to have a little experience. I'd like to learn and be with them, if they need me. I want to go there to see them play next summer. Up to them. If they choose a coach, he'll need to be ok with my eventual role.

Are you in contact with another national team ?
No. Currently, I've a real interest in the French team because I have Two French players and they are very important for me...

Boris Diaw says you love wine and cheese...
(laugh) I made 5 or 6 cycling tours in France with my wife. We went to Dordogne, Provence, around the Swiss frontier... Our ice dancer daughter competed in Nice last year. Then we stayed a week in Paris.

Very politacally correct, and low interest. For you guys to know I read you several times a week !

Excellent post! I read about this a week ago or so, so I'm happy to be updated. Isn't the deadline for the French NT to announce their HC soon?

Thanks for the news! I remember when we first got Herrmann and all the Argentine fans showed up to translate interviews... if you get any more news/interviews in France, please come by, your English is more than good enough.

http://www.lequipe.fr/Basket/breves2009/20090304_154438_accord-de-principe-avec-brown.html

i took 2 years of french... let me translate that last article for everyone...

larry brown has decided against coaching the french national team after he learned it was against FIBA rules to trade players to other countries. "how can we get better if i can't trade player who arent playing the right way", said brown. "i thought i could trade for a player as long as he spoke french" Instead larry brown will continue his french speaking experiment with the charlotte bobcats, where larry has insisted, he plans to enter the bobcats in the 2012 olympics as their own country. "ajinca should be the best player in the league by 2012. he'll really give us a chance to take home the gold". zut allurs

Basket - 'Les bleus' - Gentlemen agreement with Larry Brown:

"I confirm the talkings with LB. We agree on the principle " declared wednesday Yvan Mainini.
Morever, the prestigious Charlotte Bobcats headcoach, NBA champion with the Pistons in 2004 had already declared the existence of such talkings between Jean Pierre de Vincenzi (National Technical Director) and Crawford Palmer in charge of the relations with the NBA.

"Larry Brow is going to have a discussion with the French NT coach, they have to find an agreement about their collaboration, explains the President of the FFBB (French BB Federation). It is out of question that he will be on the field (but) the goal is not to have an allmighty authority above the french team. We have to build connections with what is happening in the NBA. It is good to have an outside look. He (LB) would be Technical Adviser but not a super headcoach or a General Manager.

Yvan Mainini then briefly talked about a sensible subject : The salary of LB.
"Larry Brown is not working for free. But we are not talking about big numbers. And it is not mandatory that we will pay him with money". Boris Diaw told that LB would like to give his NBA team a more european flavor, even more french. Therefore, a good exchange would be : You give us your very good advices and we will open you the gate of the French BB.

Here is a fast translation, sorry if it is not clear but the article in french was written in an horrible french with a lot of grammar and syntax errors.

Hope it helps to get the general meaning of the article.

Thanks naelven. Very strange to me, frankly, that LB is taking such an interest in the French national team. But hey, if it helps out his relationship with Ajinca and Diaw...

BTW Walt, I definitely LOL'd when you responded to phxsunsrock.
