Crab Dribble rule change??

Post#1 » by Bassman » Fri Mar 13, 2009 1:04 pm

I read that the officials are considering allowing the "Crab Dribble" to be legal this offseason. But more than that, they are considering changing the traveling rule...2 steps officially instead of the current rule.

Is this a big deal? Well it is to me. The official says "the game has evolved" and thinks that is a good reason to change the rules.

I believe the traveling rules should be ENFORCED, not watered down. It forces players to dribble and handle the ball effectively to achieve movement on the court. Moving the rule to 2 full steps embraces the "street ball" aspect of the casual game. It also amplifies athleticism over skill.

If this rule is changed you might as well change the height of the rim. I consider it SACRED to the game.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

They shouldn't change the rules because they've been failing to properly enforce them. They should clear up the language of the problematic area. Is this from the ESPN article? I never read it, thought it was ridiculous.

The game has evolved my a**e..... This pisses me off. Why just not change the rules to suit certain players, well, lets be honest, the NBA already does that. D-Whistle would get a bail-out call if someone slapped his stupid band-aid off his face, or if he boned someones grandma. Lebron gets away with a bazillion travels a game.

Players don't crab dribble in Europe and other parts of the world, so why should the NBA mess with the basic rules and fundamentals of the game. The NBA is already a bastardized version of the game in it's true form anyway. Naismith would be turning in his grave. Just proves to me that the NBA is getting further away from true basketball, and become more like WWF.

They already hurt the game with the more recent set of rule changes like illegal defenses, zone d's, etc. I hate how the stars are dictated by the refs via fouls most of the time. We've had a couple of games this year where the ref crew (like that really old dude) where it's done as good as possible under the current crap rules. Why further damage the game with allowing traveling? Why don't we just get rid of dribbling all together?
