Isiah Thomas wasn't responsible for getting Van Horn, that was done prior to him getting there.
Isiah was actually really good when he was part of Toronto, but in New York --It hit the ceiling.
http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/isiah_thomas.htm
He made a smart move when he dumped 'Spoon but he bent his ass over in the Marbury trade. Getting Jamal Crawford was good, but he bent over again in the Eddy Curry trade.
The Knicks were bad when he got there, but he kept adding salary so fast that the Knicks were limited in what types of moves they could make. There was no consistency in coaches. He hired HOF coach Lenny Wilkens a little after he got there and then a year later he fired him in favor of Herb Williams. He didn't draft Al Harrington, he was only a coach there with VERY limited control.
His drafts with the Knicks;
2004- Trevor was a good 2nd round pick, but he wasn't anything with the Knicks. This will be a reoccuring theme.
2005- Channing Frye was a bad pick. In the lottery, you expect more then a good rookie season. 2 picks later Andrew Bynum, who the Knicks needed and could've allowed time to develop, was taken.
Nate Robinson was picked for the Knicks, which makes that a good pick, but that was part of a trade that made Richardson a Knick and traded away Kurt Thomas. That part was not good.
David Lee is a great pick.
2006- Renaldo has done good, AS A Nugget, but here are players that were taken after that pick; Rajon Rondo, Josh Boone, and Jordan Farmar. Anyone of those guys would've been a great pick. Mardy Collins sucks, and I expect more then sucking from a 1st round pick.
2007- Wilson Chandler is a very good pick.
I can't give credit to a GM because a guy has done over the course of his career after he left that team. Rick Pitino shouldn't get credit for Chauncey Billups. Whoever drafted Jermaine O'Neal in Portland shouldn't get credit for him. The same is true for Isiah. Balkman was pretty terrible as a Knick, same is true for Trevor (who spent a little over a season with them).
Isiah gains control of anything other then drafting with the Clippers, they will reach a new level of God Awful Horrible.

Dexmor wrote:So your comparing Parker and Manu basically because Hill and Adrih are not really anything.
Thomas list is better.
they drafted parker at 28 and manu at 57
udrih is a starting pg, not bad for the 28th pick. hill is a rookie and looked great when he's played. again not bad for a 26th pick.
also, they drafted luis scola, at 56, now starting for the rockets. they also have tiago splitter, at 29, still playing in europe. they jury is still out on ian mahinimi, drafted 28th. they also drafted barbosa, at 28, but traded him. they drafted john salmons, at 27, but traded him as well. they made a draft day trade to draft giricek at 40.
the spurs haven't picked higher than 26 in a decade and have still managed to come up with all-stars, starters, role players and solid bench players. NOBODY has a better track record drafting late in the draft than the spurs. they also have the best international scouting dept in the league.
anyone can come up with stars in the top 15 picks, the spurs do it from 26-60. isiah is a good draft evaluator, but i maintain that the spurs are the best in the business on draft night.
and before the spurs run, jerry west was the best.

Re: Players rotting on other teams' bench
Hey guys what about Marquis Daniels?
He is a big, versatile swingman who has played well on both ends of the floor but Pacers fans have agreed not to exercise his team option making him an UFA.
I'd LOVE to get him here.

Nah Daniels is like a smaller, weaker version of wallace. I'd rather have the real thing. Maybe we could make a run at Hakim Warrick. Guys easily the best player on the Grizzlies and they don't even play him. Could be a great pf coming off the bench and he's cheap too.

Re: Players rotting on other teams' bench
Those guys are good but too young to pull it all together right now. Memphis sucks and they know it, thats why they start their rookies to be develop their starting lineup into a good lineup down the road. Why else would they start Darrel Arthur over Warrick. Their bench also goes positive most of the games while their starters go -20. Mayo IMO just shoots alot, not really integral to the team's success but his stats look good.

Bassman wrote:I think Crawford has the most potential on this list, but you know he's going to exercise his player option, which means you'd have to deal a $9M range player for him. He's hardly worth a Gerald Wallace. BUT, if we really wanted to get bigger on the front line and get a star SG, would you deal Crash & Okafor for Ellis, Biedrens and the Warriors lottery pick? If not their pick, could we throw in Nazr and demand Brandon Wright?
Starters:
Biedrens, Wright, Diaw, Ellis, Felton
Key Reserves:
Radman, DJ, Bell, Diop
Deep Bench:
Draft pick, Ajinca, swing guard FA
I know that's stirring the pot a lot, but I'd say Biedrens is as good or better than Okafor. Ellis is a big boost and potential star SG, allowing Bell to be a key reserve. Wright could give us improved rebounding at the 4 with significant minutes, while he and Diaw rotate assignments based on matchups. Diaw would most often play at the 3 spot.
Don't like Diaw at the 3? Trade Diaw instead of Crash with Mek.
Are you kidding? GSW would not deal Ellis or Biedrins unless you really blew their minds and even if you change it to #1 TO GSW insterad of FROM GSW....not gonna happen. Nazr + Wright? You could not GIVE Nazr to GSW..too much contract for basically a #3 center. With Nelson coaching,Wright has not had the fast track he's needed. He's played well however and still looks like a starter. Take a good look at how old Ellie-Biedrins-Wright are. They are about the same age as UNC's starting lineup.
Crawford can be had pretty cheap (not a negative junk bucket package) Great handles. Streak shooter. Habit of playing too off his man on D. I don't think the Bob's have a salary match whos either not too good or too bad.
Ike Diogu isn't "lazy" but he just has the look that suggests it. ON THE FLOOR, the guy can be just remarkable. When nothings happening..instead of going all J Noah,he shuffles and looks spaced, then when stuff is happening he's an animal. Big problem is he has had injuries at all the wrong times and coaches Live on stereotypes. Can be had as a FA probably. Frye has more game than Ryan Hollins had. Not great but has skills. I'd see about Tyson Chandler.
D Wilkins, for what he costs is not that good at anything. He's usable but you can fish for a rd 2 or a D league walk on and get a little upside at less $.
The right coach may yet get through to Gerald Green. Larry ain't that guy. Green has the tools but a lot of coaches have a one size fits all policy and don't find the key to getting inside a players head and giving him what's missing.
CENSORED... No comment.
