In any case the reason quickness is useful is two-fold.

1. Staying in front of your man on defense. (Which DJ does just fine, despite his other flaws defensively)
2. Getting to the hoop(Which DJ does just fine.)

So it would seem he's quick enough....

FWIW I agree DJ isn't slow or unathletic; in fact I thought he was really fast. In the 3/4 sprint he was only 1/100 of a second slower than Felton (3.07 vs 3.06).

I don't think DJ stays in front of his man very well on the drive, and Slam wrote a post on BCP that was very credible on why that's so. On the post up however I thought he was well above average...most could not back him down, which implies DJ has pretty good leg/lower body strength.

More than anything I think he just needs time.

He is a very skilled player. If Brook wasn't in the draft I would say he was a steal.

At the very least he has shown a willingness to play and work hard on D. He is also more than willing to step in front of a much bigger player and take a charge.

Just got to work on moving his hips and changing direction going backwards and I think he'll be an excellent defender.
