Re-doing the 2008 NBA Draft.

Post#1 » by xxSnEaKyPxx » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:11 am

Hey guys, I thought it would be fun to see how the draft would play out if everyone could do it over. After watching the rookies for a year, we've had a few changes, but really not all that much.

Bulls - Derrick Rose
Heat - Michael Beasley
Wolves - Brook Lopez
Thunder - Russell Westbrook
Grizzles - OJ Mayo
Knicks - Danilo Gallinari
Clippers - Eric Gordon
Bucks - Kevin Love

I was shocked Beasley still went #2 and that the Knicks still went with Gallinari.

No brainer here...Augustin has shown signs of being a very good NBA shooter, an elite FT shooter, and can handle the offense pretty well. If he added defense and with a few years under LB he might creep up into the top 5 of the draft class

Although I dont think it is quite a no brainer, I'd still take DJ over Lopez. But Lopez is better than most people thought he would be coming out of the draft last year. But I think DJ will be very special.

In this scenario I would go with DJ too as I think he's the best player left on the board....but if we had to re-do the original choice of DJ or Lopez I would go with Lopez and I was one of the people that prayed the Bobcats wouldnt pick that "stiff". I like DJ and he has quickly become my 3rd favorite Bobcat behind Crash & Diaw but hindsight being 20/20 if Lopez gave us what he's giving NJ, I dont think we would have given Okafor such a big contract we would have let him try to see if he could get a better offer but we still could've of matched if reasonable or signed & traded him and got more assets as it seemed as if we outbidded ourselves, I also dont think it would have been necessary to take on the contracts of Diop and probably Radmanovic...we still probably would've traded Morrsion but maybe not for that contract. I like DJ but i dont think he's gonna be "special"..he reminds me of Damon Stoudamire who had a strong rookie year then 8 or 9 solid NBA seasons but was never "special". That being said I also dont think Brook Lopez is a "special" player but if your saying that the Bobcats were gonna make the same or similar moves that we ended up making this year I think Lopez would've given us more options and put us in better situation than we are in now...which aint bad but it aint great either

I chose Jason Thompson from Rider. If he was on a better team he'd get more attention.

I was one who was doing cartwheels when we selected DJ, although I KNEW we needed a big. (We could always have done a big at 20, but Indiana had big plans for us. Those plans looked a lot like Wile E. Coyote going off the cliff chasing the Roadrunner.)

Realizing too that we were only in our 5th draft, I still think that the prevailing theory is that the NBA is becoming preeminently a "Guard" league, and we were still playing to a strength. D.J. was my guy then... and he remains my guy today.

With Lopez gone, I'd go DJ.

Its DJ based on the selections. I agree I'd prefer to have Lopez if given the decision again, but DJ is going to work out just fine for us.

Interesting that no one has selected Bayless yet. I recall a lot of folks (myself included) griping about not picking him.

yeah, everyone always talks about us not drafting lopez, but bayless was expected to go as high or higher than lopez. if bayless would have had the breakout year then all the lopez lovers would be screaming about how in the world could we let bayless get past us.
