I use that to evaluate rebounding, rather than raw rebound totals. As you point out, sometimes a player is helping the team rebound even though he doesn't get the board himself.

Cliff Robinson used to be the king of this. The guy would get 4 boards a game from the PF spot, and everyone would say his rebounding sucked. But the team rebounded better when he played. If you watched him he would just seal off the other team's best rebounder and let one of our guards run in and grab the ball.

cliff robinson was one of the most underrated players in my lifetime. i loved him as a player. he never got the recognition he deserved. he was great defender and did all the little things to help teams win. and of course was nasty from the corners.

I don't know. Missing two starters probably changes things. But look at the ESPN preseason records:

There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, I wouldn't be surprised if that is how things end up in the end. Look at the top two teams in each division; look at the bottom two teams in each division. Those aren't that far off from last year, and they might not be that far off from this year. There are a couple of exceptions (LAC, NOH, MIA), but again, who knows?

Using that information, I wouldn't be surprised if LAC surprises some people this year, though. Now that I think about it, I don't know that it would be too far-fetched to think they might surpass Phoenix in that division this year, in which case, the preseason results would have helped predict that.

Preseason means nothing...

Just look how the Panthers rebounded after their pathetic preseason.

Oh wait.... =[

(Serioiusly though...I'm excited about this season and I think we have a legit chance for the 8th seed)
