Different places have different cultures, but I know if I brought 2 firearms to work played a prank like Arenas did. I would definately be fired!

Its not good for the NBA image which is really trying to push into international markets.
Supports that gun carrying, gangsta image for the players.

A few things here:

The Wizards can try to void his contract but the Warriors couldn't void Sprewell's contract when he choked his coach. I doubt bringing unloaded guns to a game is worse than actually choking your coach. I am sure the Wizards will try to void it but if precedence serves then they will lose in arbitration.

Comparing the Arenas situation to the Kobe/rape situation is an interesting study in how the NBA is really just protecting its business interest - not trying to promote morality. Article 35(d) of the NBA Constitution says:

The Commissioner shall have the power to suspend for a definite or indefinite period, or to impose a fine not exceeding $50,000, or inflict both such suspension and fine upon any Player who, in his opinion, (i) shall have made or caused to be made any statement having, or that was designed to have, an effect prejudicial or detrimental to the best interests of basketball or of the Association or of a Member, or (ii) shall have been guilty of conduct that does not conform to standards of morality or fair play, that does not comply at all times with all federal, state, and local laws, or that is prejudicial or detrimental to the Association.

The second clause does not require a crime to be committed or a court to find anyone guilty. The NBA just has to determine the player is guilty of detrimental conduct. I think raping someone and then paying them lots of money to go away fits that bill and certainly is as troublesome as bringing unloaded guns to the locker room. But Kobe is a marketing asset while Arenas is not.

I'll be really honest though... what Arenas did is frankly very mild in comparison to some of the things athletes have been convicted of lately. We'll see what ends up happening to him, but I'm really not sure why this is getting treated like it's the end of the world. I mean, SJax actually FIRED a gun during a fight, got convicted of criminal recklessness, and got suspended 7 games.

What Arenas did was wrong and stupid, but I don't really understand the hysteria.

Difference is that Jax let off a couple into the air outside a strip club after he was hit by a car.

Gilbert took guns into an NBA locker room.

I don't know, maybe your 3 imaginary realgm friends can answer that.

You aren't going to get added to the club with that type of attitude...

Thank God. I could never be in a club that supports Gilbert Arenas. Now scoot along ...

Which situation was more likely to end up with someone getting shot? It's not like it was pure self-defense in SJax's case, because the cops still arrested and charged him. Merely bringing guns to a place should never be considered as serious as actually opening fire during a violent confrontation.

Yea, that's the last thing I read. Gilbo was not going to say anything so he didn't ruin Critt's "career".

I doubt he'll refrain from ruining Crittenton's career if that can prevent his contract from being voided though.

@ mezo

i guess the difference is that kobe only admitted to having sex with her. he never admitted to raping her and the evidence wasnt enough to support the claims (unless i am forgetting the details). arenas admitted to his actions and there were witnesses, therefore stern's decision was very easy. stern would not have needed to suspend kobe for rape if he would have been found guilty. he would have been in jail.

right?

Honestly, probably not. Kobe is still a net positive to the league no matter what, even Vick got to keep playing.

That said, the best business decision would be to just kill Crittenton's career and let Gilbo off, since Zero is the star here.

He's an idiot, that's for sure. and he deserves a punishment for this BS. But still, I kinda feel bad for him because he hasn't played for 3(!!!)years now.

He needs to hire an agent, listen to his lawyers and of course stop with this childish behaviour.
