Hollinger Proposes Boozer for Diaw, Henderson + 1st

Post#1 » by Mezotarkus » Sat Jan 9, 2010 1:03 am

Hollinger posted a recent article about teams that have bleak outlooks and are over the luxury tax threshold and thus likely angling to trim payroll.

One deal he proposed was for the Jazz to send Boozer to the Bobcats for Diaw, Henderson and a lottery-protected first rounder.

As much as I think Diaw is a joke and Boozer would make us a scary team in the playoffs, the thought of sacrificing Henderson and a first rounder for a 3 month rental of Boozer makes me pause. But ultimately, Boozer is a Duke alum and might decide to stick around so what the hell - I'd pull the trigger.

I would not do this unless Boozer was willing to pledge a sincere willingness to give Charlotte every opportunity to re-sign him (HA!...that would be worth 2 cups of coffee). I would certainly not include a future 1st. That is WAY too much. However, Diaw and Henderson probably works for me. Gerald H may be a nice player one day but not a likely starter. We'd need to sign a FA or bring Ajinca in to back him up. Boozer would rocket this team into a certain 5th place finish (at minimum).

Is it worth it to take that chance? Well, with Jackson you're committed to winning now (and within the next 3 years with Crash's contract) so we might as well be all in. Next year, If Boozer bolts, we've got a head start on the rebuilding with cap space.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I have to say this is a "yes."

1) Does it make us better? Yes, flagrantly and dramatically.
2) Does it help our cap situation? Yes, drastically, because it saves us 18m and actually could make us a player in 2011.
3) Does it help our future talent? There's the "no," because Henderson is an OK prospect and we don't know what that 1st might be worth. Boozer is almost certain not to resign unless the financial situation around the league is such that we are one of the few teams that are willing to give him 10m+.

So... I still probably do it. I am not thrilled about giving away young players, but Diaw is horrible, and this is the sort of deal that might even get us out of the first round of the playoffs.

Get it done now! Boozer is a stud and if he likes it here he might give us another season. Who cares about Henderson, just another mediocre lottery pick of the Bobcats.

No chance. The Jazz want Crash, but no way I'm willing to trade him right now, especially not for Boozer.

No way I would give them all of that for a Boozer rental.

Give them Chandler and Hendo for Boozer and Korver.

...17.5m in expirings for a rookie who hasn't played and a complete disaster in Chandler? Maybe they'll throw in Deron too.

If Boozer did not come back we'd be out Diaw who is a tragedy, Henderson who is a zero and a draft pick which - with this management team - will likely be a zero. I say get Boozer in here and lets do damage in the playoffs. Boozer could be left as the odd man out in the 2010 free agency and decide to re-up with us. If he doesn't we have lost some questionable assets and shed ~$12m per year for the next few years in contracts.

There's too many reasons for us to do this trade. Is this a real rumor or just one of these Hollinger fantasy trades?

It's actually a good trade for both teams. Utah already has Milsap to replace Boozer and netting Diaw would help solidify their bench. Getting a player like Boozer will help make this team much much better but we need some reassurance that he will stay longer than one season.

Any worse than Diaw has been - who has a longer contract than TC and wouldn't even fit in their starting line up?

They can keep Korver. Give some other longer contract that will help them with their lux tax problems.

Make it TC and Flip for Boozer and Miles for all I care.

I just wouldn't sell the farm to bring in Boozer just to watch him walk next summer - or worse, us be the team to stupidly over pay for him and I would think that a defensive C to play next to the offensive PF in Okur who also excels in the pick and roll would be a LOT more attactive to them than Diaw would be.

Oh, exactly, I'm not counting Diaw as a positive here. I'm basically looking at it as pick+prospect for salary relief + 3mo. rental.

TC is also a bad contract, just a shorter one, and here you're not giving them a first to get an extra expiring on top of the big one in Boozer. Its charitable to call TC a defensive C at this point.

Maybe, but he's more so than anyone other big on the Jazz roster - and I wonder if TC would have more of an impact on the offensive end running with a PG like D.Will.

We all saw what he was like next to CP3 - and D.Will probably runs the P&R better than him.
