In a state of shock (Larry Brown)
Anyone else in a state of shock?
I am. Like, continual.
I guess it's time to give "mad props" and all that to Larry Brown. I mean, it was ugly... but it's working.

Re: In a state of shock (Larry Brown)
I'm with you. I didn't buy into the whole "ILBIT" thing. I thought he was making some terrible decisions - especially in game - and killing our rookies, but good Lord has he got the team clicking.
I said over at BCP I have a feeling that this will end up being LB's fav team of all time. With guys like Felts, Jax and Crash on the roster, the way they play, the size of their hearts, they way they have embraced his philosophy...........I really think this is "his" team. More than the Sixers were. More than the Pistons were.
Problem now I face is "WHAL".
What Happens After Larry.
Can't see him still coaching us in 5 years time. Heck, sometimes I wonder if he'll still be here in 2. When he does move on we HAVE to make sure we replace him with someone who coaches the same way, someone who will continue with this defensive philosophy. Other wise we risk being a mess.

I am feeling the same way since January 2. I keep waiting for the letdown but they keep winning. Over .500 and currently in the playoffs. Are we dreaming? LOL

Re: In a state of shock (Larry Brown)
As I've explained before on BCP that "ILBIT" wasn't that I (or the others) felt that LB was "god". It was more in frustration with the total ineptness of the FO and the coaches preceding him. They were so freaking bad that I/we didn't care if he did what he always does...it couldn't be much worse.
That being said, right now he's easily surpassing my expectations.
As far as WHAL, there are plenty of guys I think would love to come be an assistant under him for a year or two and then take the reins. Eric Snow comes quickly to mind. Maybe even someone like Raja.

So you think they will bring someone in? You don't think that Hanners, Ford, Capel or Herb would get a look at the job?
If it was going to be someone like Snow or DA or Raja etc I would want them on the coaching staff today because as I said, I don't see LB sticking around much longer.
After having such a high profile, high opinionated, successful coach it's going to be a hard time for anyone to step in and take over I guess?

I don't really like any of those assistants as head coach, but then again I know very little about what Hanners actually does.
Ford - NO
Capel -
NO
Herb - 4 years older than LB
Yeah, I agree I'd like the HC in waiting to be on the sidelines now, but I figure LB will be here at least 2 years and possibly more health permitting. If MJ ends up with majority shares it wouldn't surprise me if LB sticks longterm...maybe even doing something like Chicago did with Bernie/the other guy we wanted as coach a couple years back which I can't freaking remember his name/Vinnie.
LB's great love is teaching in practice anyway. If the above comes down he'd probably like doing that til he checks out permanently.

Think how happy Steve Martin would be because of the amount of times he would get to mention him during games though!!
Maybe someone like Avery Johnson will be ready to step back in by the time we are looking to replace?
Far as I am concerned I would like LB to stay here for the duration of the contracts of, say, Jax and Crash. If we moved one or both of those guys and started changing the identity, make up and direction of the team then I think LB should go.
(if that makes sense?)

Re: In a state of shock (Larry Brown)
i have to say... i was really starting to question the old man a few months ago.
he really shut me up. regardless of what our offense does, what he has done with our defense is amazing. that is something that will show up almost every night.
i am not normally a defense guy. i always loved offense. but i have to admit, i LOVE watching our defense play. when i watch other teams play and i see bad defense i think to myself "wow, we would have never let that happen on that play"

Re: In a state of shock (Larry Brown)
Especially of late with GW getting more aggressive on helping against drives with his shot blocking this defense is amazing!
Feels like a dream but unlike shooting or anything else good defense doesn't take breaks so we should be good!

I have been living with assumption Hanners is a lead assistant if there is such a thing on our bench. It would surely help to have someone Larry worked with as a head coach once Larry (will he ever?) retires. A least for the very next year to evaluate things and make preparations for a change if needed.

Hanners might be great.
For those UNC fans back in the Dean Smith era however I'm sure Coach Gut would come to mind.

Celtics fan here. It's actually Tom Thibodeau but he's a great low profile defensive-minded coach. He's so underrated but certainly deserving of a head coaching job. I can see some similarities between him and LB. He's really helped Doc Rivers manage the defensive end over the past 3 seasons.
