Bobcats should sign Mustafa Shakur

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:18 am

This kid is the best pg in the D league. With nbatv I actually watch Dleague games. Alot of teams have been getting some steals. He is 25, altheltic 6'3 and strong, can create and score at will, play D and basically would be another good guard coming off the bench and eventually be a very good backup for D.J.
If Mike picks him up I will be impressed. Somebody will soon, you will see, I just hope it's us.

Any Relation to Tupac? and i wouldn't sign him this year because it may mess up team chemistry and we seem to be finally getting it and clicking now.

Shakur is a great kid, no doubt. But as Stun704 stated there is no need for him at the moment + DJ has been actually playing as of late.

Shakur was terrible at Arizona and couldn't stick in the NBA.

That's why he is in the D.

I still prefer Morris Almond...Shakur would be ok if you are determined to have a 3rd PG. Reggie Williams would have been nice, but I guess that ship has sailed. If everybody's healthy I would still play Henderson/Augustine over both of those guys, I'm a big believer in playing the young guys, even if there are veteran players who are marginally better.

I liked it last year when we brought in guys on 10 day contracts for an audition. It doesn't mess up chemistry because they don't play much in games. The Warriors have done that a lot and found some decent players that way. I wouldn't mind finding the next Matt Barnes or Kelena Azubuike(sp?).

I wouldn't sign him right now, but he is absolutley somebody this team should consider bringing in.

Really?

I watched him a LOT at Arizona and all I saw was a PG who killed the offensive flow of his team, looked to get his own 95% of the time and more often than not was wildly out of control.

I've watched him a couple of times during SL and he didn't seem that different.

I haven't seen him in the D, but has he really improved that much?

Me preferring Almond to Shakur may just be my personal biases. I believe a lot of the D-league intelligentsia may put him above Almond.

Almond is just a more polished, well-rounded (offensively anyway) player and Shakur is more athletic and less polished. I always worry about guys like Shakur moving up to a higher level because he relies so heavily on getting to the hoop. One thing that is really noticeably different between the D-league and the NBA is the quality of the help defense. The NBA just has much bigger, faster, more athletic players that appear to block your shot when you go to the hoop. If Shakur can't get to the basket I'm not sure how he is going to score. Almond on the other hand, can score in lots of ways if he can't get to the hoop.

Shakur is probably a better defensive player for what it's worth, if only because he is the better athlete.

I wasn't saying sign him to a contract, what I meant was bring him in. Like how we brought in Stephen Graham. Its not like I expect Shakur to be some game changer, but he'd at least be worth bringing in for the exhibition season.

See to me Almond is a more polished player as he is a shooter and surely can fill that role but he has no upside and no D.
Shukor was actually sopposed to go pretty high in the draft. The tools were always there the problem was his decisions in pressure situations. He was young. He is 25.
He has potential. Honestly if he can make the right decisions he can be a top 10 rotation player.
Fact is he can get to the rim anytime he wants to in the D. He has also become a really good passer. He was NOT a good passer back in the day. He has improved on that. He's the Chris Paul of the D league which means he can at least be better then lets say Jordan Farmar.

I know what you mean. I feel like a loser when I watch the Dleague. I mean really, im watching the Dleague? Can't I have something else better to do? But sadly I don't.

Although I will say honestly I could be a scout. The Dleague is not hard to figure out at all. Reggie Williams the Knicks sf was killing it in the Dleague. He was the leading scorer and got 10 rebounds. Everybody who watches the D knew he was gonna get a shot and be really good. I mean it's just obvious who is an nba to be and who isn't. Mustofa will probably get a call up as early as this year or as late as next year or most likely make a team from summer camp.
e4nf6 can attest to this, if you watch the D league you will figure out very easily. I honestly don't know why he wasn't called up in the begining of the season.
There are about 5-6 guys in the D league that can be very good bench players and maybe even a starter for some teams right now in the D.
There's really not much more then that not including the guys teams have rightss to.

The quality sucks though. It kind of looks like your watching an old game.

Now that they got Hughes I still think they should sign Mustafa. Him and 2-3 other dleague players for next year though. Mustafa I give him a seat on the inactive list this year so no other team snatches him up.

This way if we have 3 guys making 500,000 a year we are more likely to be able to sign Felton-Hughes-Tyrus to long term deals. I mean I know the Bobcats haven't won but they are winning now and will be in the future if they keep these guys and there worst contract is about to be an expiring as is Nazr's which means there only bad deal is Diop plus there 2 allstars are at a bargain.
Paying a few mill for Hughes and a total of 70 million for Felts and Ty to split is totally fair.

Do you watch D League games on the internet, NBA TV, or what? I won't be watching, but I am curious.
Humble yourself.

I'm guessing that a good scout would know that Reggie Williams plays for the Golden State Warriors and not the Knicks!!

We are already at the max of 15 players on our roster. Can't sign any more unless we cut some people.
