Question about Raymond Felton?

Post#1 » by dookieguy » Thu Apr 22, 2010 11:30 am

For one, when the hell did this guy develop a 3pt stroke? Is he a decent 3pt shooter now? 38.5% is pretty good, though he only takes 2 a game..

Also, how much do you guys think he'll get or deserve to get? If you're interested in resigning him, how much would you guys give him at most?

He deserves around 6 million/year IMO, but someone will undoubtedly offer him more.

I swear, he must be the most discussed player in this history of this franchise.

But you know what, when the game is on the line he's the only guy who has really come through for us. I can think of only one or two times Jax might have been that guy, but for all the times Felton's screwed up, he's certainly been the hero more than not in our close games.

I just wish we saw this guy more often (1:31 Mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUfbMAlUGkc

I know some people think that he would be great in NY under Mike D's run and gun style, but I disagree. I think he needs structure.

In a SSOL system his shooting percentages could take a nose dive again and he could be all helter skelter - which would be a huge regression for him IMO.

That's exactly what I'm telling people on the Knicks board.

I think one of the issues with Felton is he's not really a half-court type of offensive PG - which is what we are. Put him in an offense who is supposed to score within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock and I bet you his numbers go up. Might be a little more careless with the ball, but hey I'd take one more TO per game for an extra 3 assists and 5-7 points.

Pretty much the total opposite of what I said three posts above and Fred agreed with!!

I'll even it up then. I agree with Rich. Our team is at our best when we are running. I don't think there is any debate there. It certainly helps with a guy like Crash but the Knicks are looking for an atheltic fwd to fill that role. One of the biggest complaints about Felton is that he can't initiate the offense. That's really a half court offense problem. If you're running and gunning, there isn't as much to initiate, its more about people getting in their lanes.

I think Felton averages a double double with the Knicks but his shooting percentage drops a lot.

Ray improved this season, no doubt. But there is no way he will be a double-double player - not for Charlotte or any other team. That is Williams and CP3 territory, and Ray is not close to that elite status.

felton is better than duhon, so it will at least be an upgrade for the knicks for sure.

I always wondered what we would see from a Chris Paul or Derron Williams on this team, with this talent, in this system. Their numbers would be good, but I guarantee you they wouldn't be as high as they are now.

Felton is an average starter or a very good backup. He could be the starting point guard for a contender as long as he doesn't have to be the star. He is and has been since his unc days a good shooter. His percentage has gone up this year because he isn't shooting anything off the dribble. I would give him a max of 6 per year and think he is probably worth 5. Having said that I think he is looking for 10-12 per year.

How about a trade with Indiana for T.J. Ford. I know it is not straight up money; so what other players should we involve if you are interested?

How CP3 had amazing numbers with a poor mans larry brown(byron scott) and worse talent surrounding him IMO
