Paul Rumors

Post#1 » by Rich4114 » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:42 am

I've been reading a lot of articles about teams inquiring about Chris Paul. If this is true, shouldn't we be one of them? It sounds like the sale from Shinn to the new dude is stalling and he may consider unloading salary to help make it happen. We could do some combination of taking back Okafor, giving up Chandler's expiring and perhaps some other young assets like Hendo + DJ.

One other question - as NO wants to see about improving SG/SF - if NO offered Paul for Jax and Wallace, would you do it? I would. We might suffer for a year, but we would be winners in the long run.

If you look at some of the offers that New Orleans had received already (Grizz offered a package which included OJ Mayo, Portland may or may not have offered Roy for CP3, the Nets offered the #3 and everyone but Lopez), it hard to see how we could outbid anyone with the guys we could offer.

No way I'd give up the 2010 NBA Champion Ladycats for Okafor.

He has sweet mechanical moves. Not sure if robotic dance suits those costumes well though.

Oh and he can really stretch.

We can outbid them by saving the Hornets money and payroll. That is ultimately what they're trying to do and the only reason they'd look to move Paul. If it's strictly to improve the team, they'll just trade Collison instead.

How much money are we talking about if we took Paul/Okafor and sent them back DJ/Nazr/Tyson? I'm talking about in terms of overall contract value the Hornets save. They'd end up with DJ's rookie deal on the books next year and that's it. We may need to take something else back too like Posey maybe. But our whole deal would be based around saving NO money, not a package of comparable players.

You don't trade an MVP candidate unless it's for another MVP candidate or they request a trade, or you might lose them to FA for nothing anyway, or your owner's a bunghole and wants to shed dollars. :D
