A question about Okafor...

Post#1 » by mikhailjordan » Wed Jul 14, 2010 3:46 am

I know he's on the Hornets now but you guys had him for longer and the Hornets board looks dead, but could Okafor play power forward when he was in Charlotte? And can he play any PF now?

My gut instinct is telling me he can't, but just wanted to see what you guys had to say...

No, he's just a slightly undersized C.

He doesn't defend well away from the basket at all - which in 99% of cases forces him to be a C.

okafor is at his best when playing against undersized centers or forwards. he eats them alive. he does not do well against quicker perimeter centers or power forwards and does not do well against big strong centers.

he seems to avoid foul trouble better than most bigs and thats a huge plus.

on offense, unless you pair him with a high post center or jumpshooting center you'd just have a cluster down on the blocks. okafor is useless when he is more than 5 feet from the basket, and that includes setting picks.

Okafor is Ben Wallace 2.0 maybe slightly less aggressive defensively but a little better offensively.

Not enough foot speed to guard a stretch 4. Not enough size to guard the bigger centers. Worst of all he doesn't even scrap in those situations. He just looks like he feels sorry for himself. Also he absolutely refuses to leave the paint on D. Hard to pad your stats out there. He is more or less the best backup center in the league.
