What happened to Diop?

Post#1 » by sefant77 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:22 am

Mavs fan here. What the hell happened to Diop?

Major injuries?

He was such a nice solid 20-25min center back until 2007. Why he doesnt see the court anymore?

i think he forgot how to play basketball. he has been a nightmare as a bobcat.

i guess its like this... with the mavs, you guys had enough scoring and needed some defense, rebounding and toughness. you could afford to have diop play 20 mins. our offense is not good enough to overcome diops inability to contribute on that end of the floor. and our defense and rebounding is great w/out needing him.

we are always better off going small when our starting centers need a break.

I will say though. Last year in VERY lmitted minutes was the first time Diop showed any signs of even being interested in offense. If he could even try to do something on offense (anything liek what we saw from him last year) then he could be used in the rotation. I don't have aproblem with him after what i saw. Again it was very limitted minutes, but he was aggresive on offense. You know you will get blocks, rebounds and good defense from him. If he could find ANY kind of an offensive game, even if it is just catching and dunking, then he becomes something we can use off the bench.

If LB makes a rotation player out of Gana, then he really is a Hall of Famer.

If it wasn't for Diop's hands being numb, he'd be a damn good big man.

Nothing happened to him, he has just been buried on the depth chart. Same thing happened to Nazr a year ago. I really hope he gets solid minutes this year. Big guys need time on the floor to get into the rhythm of the game. Last year when training camp started Larry said he was in 100% better shape then when he first came to the Bobcats. He also said he needs to get in 100% better shape again. Hopefully this year he will break out.

He played a bit less, and he has yet to really do anything at the NBA level. Its not like he was the cornerstone of the Mavs or even a key starter. The better players around him, the better he seems.

I think he can be an okay defensive big, as he showed in Dallas. I'm not saying he should play much, but at least a couple minutes a game I think he could offer something, particularly on certain matchups. LB clearly thinks nothing of him though, which is bizarre since we traded for him under LB's watch.

He was an important piece of 06 in combination with Damp because it was 48min hard defense and 12 fouls and he delivered hard defense.

He was a starting centre in a team that would have won it all if it wasn't for Wade getting favours from the ref's, so he has done something in the NBA.

But as mentioned, he truely a defensive presence only, which hasn't fitted here.

I remember in NJ he couldn't consistently catch the ball...
