OT: GSW's Sold For $450 Million

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Thu Jul 15, 2010 6:30 pm

How much did Jordan pay for upwards of 80% of the Bobcats? Something like $250-$300 million?

How does this sale and it's price reflect on what MJ paid for the Bobcats though?

To me it looks like MJ made a good purchase?

Wow, the Oracle guy got outbid by a cool 40+ Million. Looks like Mandalay Bay now owns the Warriors. Might they be on the move to Vegas?????

To me it doesn't because of all that debt MJ took on. Also, the Warriors have a much bigger following than us right now and the Oracle Arena is almost always sold out. Being in the Bay Area helps a lot too.

The league is run by money and Golden State is backed up with plenty. I can see them wheeling and dealing the next couple of years to get players around Steph Curry.

I'd be pumped to have a corporation like that own my team. They're going to spend the most to put the best people in charge.

That being said, I guess the Clippers should really just move to Vegas instead. Or perhaps Sacramento (are they getting their arena?)

The minority owner (Peter Gruber) is chairman of Mandalay Entertainment.

Mandalay Bay is a casino/resort in Vegas owned and operated by MGM Inc. Mandalay Bay and Mandalay Entertainment have nothing to do with each other.

And besides, the reason someone's paying $450M for the poorly performing franchise known as the Golden State Warriors is because of the highly lucrative market and fanbase the team operates in. It's certainly not because of the way the team has performed or because they have Lebron or Kobe on the team.

So nobody is going to pay that much for a bad team in a great market so that they can take that bad team and move them to a completely unknown/unproven market where most of the people are Lakers fans, anyways.

We should just deal with them till they will have a more competent front office. Rob them while you still can and run away.

They'd have to be really dumb to not fire Don Nelson. New logo, new ownership, they have to get a new coach.

In a major upset, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is not the new owner of the Golden State Warriors. That title goes to Joseph Lacob. As Bay Area News Group previously reported, Lacob, currently part owner of the Boston Celtics, is the winning bidder. Ellison, though, claims that he submitted a higher bid. "Although I was the highest bidder, Chris Cohan decided to sell to someone else," Ellison said in a statement released by a spokeswoman at his company, Oracle. "In my experience, this is a bit unusual." Oakland Tribune
