Big Man Options?!

Post#1 » by misterglover » Wed Oct 6, 2010 9:42 pm

Alot has been made of the Bobcats PG situation but for me I have confidence in DJ...he had a strong rookie year and his sophmore year was stunted by Larry Brown's need to control everything & desire to play veteran players choosing early in the season to give what should have been DJ's minutes to Flip. I think he will bounce back and have a strong season. Im worried about Livingston, I know that was a horrific knee injury, I cant even watch it & I know he has done amazing just to get back to this point but it has been 3 years and he still cant even practice 2 consecutive days what is he gonna do on back to back games or 5 games in 7 night stretches. That worries me.....

But what I am more concerned about is a problem that has plagued the Bobcats for years and that is the inside game... (Off topic but why is it that the sports teams here in Charlotte cant fill an obvious hole?? Everyone could see for years that Panthers have needed a 2nd WR to compliment Smitty and they just never could find him, The Bobcats have been looking for a legit inside presence since year 2 and have never gotten him. Emeka was ok @ center but never had that inside scorer beside him @ PF, now Diaw is ok @ PF but we have no C of any real talent......) Any team with Nazr as there starting C worries me, there is a reason he has bounced around this league, he's never been that good and he's not getting younger and missed alot of time last year w/ a bad back...the older you get back injuries dont go away the just linger... Kwame i think will help but this is Kwame Brown we're talking about, Diop shouldnt be in the NBA.... At the PF we have Diaw who I think is really skilled but he plays hard when he wants to, & I dont have much confidence in Tyrus to be anything other than I athletic role player. Our post rotation worries me more than anything but are there any legit options out there to help either now or in the future...i like what I hear about this Rogers guy but doesnt look like he's gonna get a legit shot to make the team, the Bucks just cut Tiny Gallon who may be a young cheap option for the future but with our current roster situation we cant add anyone..... I dont think either one of those guys or anyone else is gonna come in & make a big impact but at some point you have to look to the future...instead of having Najera on the bench in street clothes why not sign a guy like a Gallon & let him spend the entire year in the d-league, he would only be a sophomore in college anyway but he next year we have another young option, same thing with a young big like a Rogers

Someone give me hope cheap options that may be able to come in & contribute or are we looking at having to make another trade once the front office realizes this isnt gonna work or Larry Brown claims burn out & threatens to quit, whichever comes first this year

I'm still holding out that the Heat end up cutting Dexter Pittman because they have 200 guys currently on the roster and they need to trim it down to 15.

They already have Bosh, Haslem, Anthony, Howard, Z, Maglorie and Randolph so he becomes a casualty of the numbers game and when they do, we swoop on Dexter and sign him long term Andray Blatche style.

But we wont.

Wait, do the Heat need to trim it down to 15 or do the Heat need Dexter trim down 15?

What about Jarvis Vernardo. Seems a little thin to play center, but he is a LB type of player for sure. Pretty sure the heat are going to cut him if they haven't already.

Jarvis signed with an Italian team in August. He knew better than to try to earn a roster spot on that stacked Heat team.

Signing a rookie is not going to sign the big man problem. The only rookie that I think has a chance is the one we invited; Rogers. LB might be convinced that he doesn't need another big and that's probably enough to keep Higgins from signing one.

How about something like this?

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5713244

With the Raptors sending a 2nd round pick to the Heat

- We get out of a year of Diaw's contract.
- We move Tyrus to the starting PF position.
- We get a blue collar. rebounding, grunt work machine in Dorsey to back up Tyrus at the PF spot on the cheap.
- We waive Tank.
- We get a defensive vet 3rd string PG in Banks to replace Tank who also expires at the end of this season.
- We get a back to the basket low post offensive C with upside on the cheap.
- We waive Najera.

DJ - Livingston - Banks
Jax - Hendo - Hammer
Crash - UPS - McGuire
T2 - Dorsey - Brown
Nazzy - Pittman - Diop

Better balance, shorter/better contracts, more cap room next summer (Nazzy + Banks = approx $12 mil of expirings) better role players, added depth????

Larry Brown would not want Gallon at any cost, trust me. He and Skiles have similar styles, and Skiles clearly disliked his game and attitude, for good reason.

I just don't see the point of bringing in another big just to do it. A trade, sure. But someone elses waiver, nah. If the Heat let Pittman go, maybe. But knowing Larry Brown, it concerns me that Courtney Sims is available.

I don't see it as bringing in another big just for the sake of it - because we would also be adding depth with better role players. trimming salary off of next summer and proving T2 the playing time his newly signed contract warrants.

Diaw has started Center before. Not that he was any good at it, but when we're looking at Najera and Diop it's almost plausible.

I like it slam. Definately prefer this to Diaw, and I'd rather have Banks as a 3rd PG optiion than the hydrant.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

diop was dreadful last year. came to camp overweight and out of shape, no confidence. he didnt deserve to be in the nbdl, let alone on an nba roster.

this summer he has been working his ass off getting in shape and getting his confidence back. if the last 2 games are any indication it seems that diop might actually be worth something this year. he will see minutes this year.

dont blame larry for not playing diop last year. he had no choice.

Boston expected to sign Tiny Gallon to a non guaranteed deal. He'll end up in the D-League but a very solid player.

From what I have read about him there are some questions about his maturity and work habits?
