And to add to that, he had horrible work habits and a poor attitude - although it might end up coming out that all this wasn't the case and he's just another kid that Larry Brown broke?

Re: Charlotte's opinion on Ajinca
The "intriguing prospect" angle is what got Larry Brown buzzed, and what made us stupidly trade a future pick to obtain the pick that we used on this guy. Ajinca has size, can shoot the ball pretty well on a practice court, and gets up and down the floor decently for his size. He has pencil thin legs, so he cannot hold position on the post. His footwork is a mess. His basketball IQ is low. He never proved he could play at a decent level in the French league, and he's got little game at the NBA level. Good luck...
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I still maintain that Lexy wasn't the reason we traded for that 2nd 1st round pick and just ended up being the consolation prize.

Re: Charlotte's opinion on Ajinca
he is the ultimate tease... on the surface you see a 7-footer with great range, nice touch around the basket, can run like a deer and looks like he should be able block 5 shots a game. then you see his NBDL numbers from last year and you think, wow, he really can be a player. but flash to reality and you realize he has low bball iq, poor work ethic, slow feet on defense, foul prone, too skinny to hold position down low etc...
he is still worthy of a roster spot simply for his size and potential, just know what you are getting into.

Have to concur with the general sentiment here - he's a worthless tease and waste of a first round pick.
Re: the Ajinca move - Why would Dallas even consider adding Peja? Not like he's going to help them get over the hump. I'd keep Ajinca in a suit and as a practice player before giving Peja a minute of floor time.

Peja isn't that bad, but compared to his contract he was absolutely terrible. But for the min, he'd be a fine addition.

I just don't see it. It seems like Dallas wants to keep Pavlovic and add Peja as a 1-2 punch at the 3 to replace Butler - http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/ne ... id=6041580 I understand Dallas is in win now mode and Ajinca is a long term project that will most likely never pan out. Having Peja on the bench for the min to drain a couple of threes a night is not the worst thing in the world, but he has to be one of the worst defensive players of all time. I think my point is that this does nothing to keep Dallas in the running out west. If they expect him to make a meaningful contribution at this point in his career, they're mistaken - they'll be playing a man down on D every possession he's in. If they truly wanted to compete, they should have tried to move Haywood for a 3 and keep Chandler, Mahmini (sp?) and Ajinca - they had 4 centers.
Say...something like Terry's expiring, Haywood and Beaubois for Gerald Wallace and Nazmo? Works in trade checker. Not that we'd want to do this, but its the type of deal they should consider.
Sorry - off topic, I know!

I really wish they hadn't paid haywood so much and for so long. God that contract could have been so much better. Losing both Terry and Beaubois might not be something they'd do, they play a similar role and losing both is losing a lot of what they do as a team to score the ball and get the edge on opponents to win games.
Haywood is enticing... but that contract! That horrible contract! At least he's not Diop though.
How about Wallace and Diop and Livingston for Terry and Haywood and their late 1st round pick? They'd still have Roddy to do a lot fo what terry does, get a decent defender at the guard spot in livo, and get a capable replacement for Butler in Wallace. They could still deal Caron for another guy who could play the 2. If they wanted to keep terry then we could replace him with Caron and something else to give us (terry is obviously more valuable than Caron right now).

I would probably do that deal. It would open up a roster spot, Jack moves to the 3, Terry could float between the 2 and backup 1 as a rental and possibly be signed as a cheap bench player after he expires. Dallas definitely has the pieces to get a better band-aid than Peja, and I agree that we would be an interesting trade partner for them. The 5 years on Haywood's contract are brutal, though. Agreed - Brutal. But I would swap him out for Diop's contract in a second. My loyalty to Wallace makes me reluctant, but my loyalty to Wallace ain't what it used to be

Edit - small hitch: Jet's contract isn't expiring. He has another year @ 10 mil. My bad.

Re: Charlotte's opinion on Ajinca
I don't think he will ever really amount to anything. Is he supposed to be traded to Toronto? If he goes to a team that can give him as much PT as he wants, he might be able to carve a niche for himself in this league. That might be interesting to see, but as it stands, he hasn't really shown much to get excited about. I wouldn't mind seeing him on an expansion roster type of team where he can get as many minutes as he can handle, to see if he can produce anything or not.

Re: Charlotte's opinion on Ajinca
Ajinca could have really benefited from four years in college. He can and likely will be a good player but it may take a lot of time and work. I don't expect it to happen for a couple years still.
His main problems are his energy and endurance are poor. Because his endurance is poor he has developed some basket ball habits that don't serve him well, like resting when a shot goes up and waiting to see which way a rebound bounces before going after it. He is the guy bent over to normal size resting his hands on his knees at every free throw.
On offense he does some things well like shoot the ball but his game lacks an overall level of polish. He will make a ten million dollar move and the shot will look pure but be just slightly off. He is kind of like Bargnani but not nearly as polished on his shot and six inches taller. He will get some blocks and rebounds just by being so tall if he plays any minutes at all.
