Re: 2011 Free Agency
guys like jeff green and thad young dont make much sense for this team right now. they are complimentary pieces with aspirations getting paid more than the value they would bring to our team.
add jeff green or thad young and we maybe win 5 more games.
if we are going to really truly rebuild, which it seems we are, then no more shortcuts. no more overpaid middle of the road starters who arent going to make a big impact in the win column. only contracts we need to sign are rookie deals and dirt cheap vets UNTIL we land the real building pieces for the future. we dont need players to take us back to the 35-40 win level. be patient and wait for the pieces to come together either through the draft or through the 1% chance of signing a real impact free agent.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
Bizz is absolutely right - guy's like Jeff Green or Ellis (via trade) need to be eschewed so as not to end up back in the 8-12 purgatory draft range. We want to be top three to have a shot at a legit franchise guy like a Harrison Barnes.
I've been a Hawes proponent (provided it can be done reasonably at no more than $5.5mil/per) since last year.
The beauty of signing Hawes is that while he is young (23) and addresses a need (a legit 7'1 center who is an offensively gifted post scorer), he's not good enough that his addition alone will propell us from being a horrendously bad team to a medicore one. So we can still draw a top 3 pick.
Player's like Sam Young fall in the same category. If he can be added for next to nothing in lieu of Cunningham, bring him on as he's the better SF prospect and is still reasonably young.
We proceed to win 25 games, let Diaw/Najara drop off the books and look to deal Tyrus for anything the results in cap relief, even if the return is a third tier prospect or a late pick. Perhaps look to incorporate him with a DJ package for greater return.
Draft a Harrison Barnes or Perry Jones and in 2012 be:
Kemba / Draft selection acquired from DJ_Tyrus trade / Temple
Hendo / Temple / Carroll
Barnes / Sam Young (or Cunningham)
Biyombo / DJ White / Portland draft pick in the low 20s
Hawes / Kwame / Diop
Provided Kemba can transition as a playmaker and Biyombo truly is capable of providing an Ibaka like presence, this would represent a young, potential-laden roster with all the core components being 25 years or age and younger.
They'd be back in the playoffs by year 3.

Reggie Williams didn't even make the OP's list. Guy shot 42% 3 pters last season 25ppg while in the Dleague, led the NCAA in scoring 2 yrs in a row, 15ppg when given NBA minutes at year's end. Meets a serious need for the Cats (scorer). Should cost less than Sam Young.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
even with kwame and dante back in the fold that leaves 2 roster spots.
would like to see one filled with upside big: Greg Smith, Michael Dunigan, Courtney Sims, Chris Johnson.
by the way, on Johnson: he hooked up with Portland end of the season and came in 4th in fan voting for player fans would like to see return this yr (behind Crash, LMA & Wes Mathews) http://blogs.trailblazers.com/PublicPro ... ault.aspx- always a good sign. needs to gain weight but is 6'11" and would fit uptempo
just say no to Lance Allred and Patrick O' Bryant. They've had their shot.
would also like to take a look at Earl Clark.

Is he a FA?
We should sign Ammo for the lulz. And then we can have Ammo vs. Fredette stat tracking threads.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
I wouldn't mind the Bobcats acquiring Hilton Armstrong as a backup center via free-agency. He's not the most productive big man, but he's serviceable. He averages 1.5 blocks per 36 min.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
If you guys want a top three pick then we don't need to sign anyone who will actually improve this team. This team has four big men who play decent defense, a potentially very good back court, and a decent bench. Honestly I think this team wins 25 games easily. I think we are quite likely to be picking around the same area that we picked this year. If we improve any more we are looking at the back of the lottery.

Re: 2011 Free Agency

DJ, KW
Hendo, Carroll
Magette,Cunningham
Diaw,TT, White, Najara
Kuwammee, BB,Diop
and 2 spots open for a cheap 1-2 FA swing man and another cheap SF we sign after Labor Talks are over.
2011-2012 season may only be 50-60 games?

David Aldridge is painting a Bleak picture on NBA TV saying it maybe quite a while before we see another NBA game.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
Chandler - I think he's going back to pussyfoot next season. He was playing for a contract this year. Dallas will pay him a lot of money (like they did with Haywood) and he'll revert to his sucky, average self.
Thaddeus Young - I like him but his price may be too high. If we're looking at a long-term sixth man or possibly someone that can develop into a legitimate starter, he could be our man.
I also like Wilson Chandler, Affalo, and Dalembert as if the price is right. If we hadn't taken Kemba, I'd be all over Marcus Thornton right now as I was last year.

Thad would be a legit starter for us, but we'd have to way overpay so philly doesn't match though if we offer 8m per then maybe they can't with Iguodala,Brand,Williams,Nocioni(about 45-47m between them) contracts & Hawes & Greens expiring, depends what they want to do.
I'd offer that though, he'd be more valuable than TT arguably.

Or, if we're interested in Young and Hawes, make offers on both. We may not get both but there's a good chance we could get one.

Great idea Jaruff, that would screw them. Miami did that to the Clippers with Lamar Odom & Elton Brand & ended up with Lamar.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
Thad would really just add to the lockjam I think, with corey maggette. Thad can play some 4 too, to get extra minutes, but we are overstocked there as well. We need to consolidate in my opinion.

Re: 2011 Free Agency
thad is the type of player we need to stay away from right now. he is a borderline starter who will want borderline all-star money. bad combination for a rebuilding team. he isnt good enough to take us deep in the playoffs but his contract would most likely be bad enough to prevent us from add pieces that could get us deep in the playoffs.
