Najera done for the year

Bobcats’ Najera has surgery on fractured skull. Yes, he’s done for season.

It was inadvertent — an elbow from Milwaukee’s Jon Brockman that caught Charlotte’s Eduardo Najera in the forehead as both went for a rebound.

The elbow fractured Najera’s skull.
That’s about as dangerous as it sounds.

He had surgery on Saturday to repair it and he is done for the season, the Bobcats announced (Marc Spears of Yahoo broke the news.) Najera is expected to make a full recovery.

Not only is the 12-year veteran done for the season we may not see Najera back in the NBA — he is a 36-year-old free agent to be who is not really earning minutes on the Bobcats. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get a contract to play overseas, but he may have a hard time finding employment in the NBA. Najera was one of the few NBA players ever to come out of Mexico.

Sorry about that. He seems like a fan favorite around here, and wherever else he's been.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him back here next year.

I wouldn't either actually. He's an older player but he has always kept himself in good shape and his game isn't based on athleticism at all. This might actually be good for Eddie, he should be nice and fresh if we bring him back next year. The only reason he isn't getting minutes is b/c we have to evaluate the young guys to see what we have. Otherwise, he'd arguable be the 6th man at least on this dreadful team.

Without the injury, Najera is a surefire 9th-15th man. The Celtics probably wouldn't mind him this season because they need the depth and the fouls anyway. He's a guy that will get you smart fouls too. No loose ball fouls when the other team is in the bonus, etc.
