Winning the last game of the season 1.
Detroit having already wrapped up the #1 seed, played most of their players limited minutes and basically gave us the game. If there was ever a reason to tank it was that night. New Orleans had already finished their season so we knew going in that if we won, we tied them and the pick/seeding would go to a coin flip. We won the game, lost the flip and got Felton instead of Paul.
We compounded that mistake by not trading both picks for #5 & #13 for Paul.
Imagine what a difference it would have made to get those mistakes right.
We lose the last game season 1 and draft Granger over May.
Going into Season 3 we have a core of:
Chris Paul
Danny Granger
Emeka Okafor
It's really all went downhill from the last game of season 1 and I'm not sure we have hit bottom yet.

the 2006 draft. If ever there was a draft to trade down in, that was it.
not getting a decent frontcourt right off the bat to help Okafor. The 1st year team had Okafor, Brezec, Ely, an injured Jahidi White, an injured and inexperiened Jamal Sampson, some SFs masquerading as 4s (a common theme for the Bobcats) and eventually Malik Allen (via trade).
Not better utiilizing the expansion draft. They did pick Gerald Wallace who wound up the best player by far that was available. But they were picking against NO ONE. Dahntay Jones, who has eeked out a suprisingly long career, was passed over. took something like 10 RFAs and had a handful of picks that never played in the nba after being drafted. They helped out all kinds of agents with their clients, but did minimal for themselves.
Taking on large contracts without any real incentive do so; trading for Diop, Tyrus Thomas, and Matt Carroll.
Winning game 82 of the 1st season. Charlotte loses that game and picks 3rd overall rather then be in a tiebreaker. Its hindsight and all. But Chris Paul would've been demanding a trade out of here that David Stern would've certainlly helped MJ out with.
Giving away Tyson Chandler. For him we took back Matt (with the insane contract we gave him), Edjuardo Najera (who was done), and Erick Dampier (who we traded for to cut). No draft picks no cash. Tyson had a really good year. That was highly questionable.
====================
But i will say one thing, I think trading for Nazr was actually a good deal (not at the time, but this is a hindsight thread). Other then 08-09 he put up good numbers. They did need a big that bad. Its not his fault Charlotte was (IS) so awful up front. The Bobcats should've tried for a pick. Hermann struggled before the trade and didn't do anything after. He was a fan favorite, thats it. Who had a decent (Partial) rookie season.
Brezecs' weaknesses were exposed by the time of trade. He started 18 of 20 games at center and WAS AWFUL. Like it or leave it, Nazr helped. Charlotte wasn't (isn't) a free agent desitnation and Nazr did pretty decent for a team that was badly in need of help up front.

1. NOT CALLING DAVID STERN EVERY HOUR ON THE HOUR TO BE INCLUDED IN THE 03 DRAFT THAT INTRODUCED LEBRON, MELO, WADE, AND BOSH. WE WOULD HAVE STARTED OUR FRANCHISE WITH ONE OF THOSE STUDS!
2. Hiring Higgins as GM./ TT's ridiculous extention.
3. Hiring Bickerstaff to initially map out our franchise plan. His ideas were sound. His and Higgins ability to bring the plans to fruition mimicked target shooting with an ozzie.
4. Hiring whoever our scouting director is .
5.Trading Dudley- He was one of the best draft picks we ever made.
6. Drafting May instead of Grainger. I am not sure where the supposed trade for three came from. I never heard that one at the time. I remember that we asked Atlanta to trade up to two, because Bernie Bickerstaff wanted Marvin Williams.
7. Not drafting Brook over DJ.
8. Not trading down for 4 and 24 this summer.
9. Letting Tyson force his way out of Charlotte.
10. Not pursuing a trade to switch Emeka with Dwight draft night.

More recently, what if we had drafted Beal and traded him to OKC for Harden?

Regardless of what you think of MKG (and I like him a lot), yikes.

Humble yourself.
