its hard to really look at the final mocks from those drafts as an idea of where players were projected most of the year. dx and others gather intel all day on draft day and make last minute revisions to reflect what they are hearing. at that point their mock is less about who they feel is better but more about what they are hearing. i think some people knew the thunder liked westbrook. dx has great sources for that kinda stuff. it would be better to find a mock from a week or two prior to the draft.

That's a good point fats, I'm sure older ones can be dug up but I guess it still makes the point about Cho picking Westbrook against most mocks. I definitely remember him being projected that year in the late lotto and even falling to us. I still can't believe what an epic fail that draft was for us. It's like 2005 all over again when you look at it.

U guys should keep a close eye on Orlando
Their GM came from OKC and is making some really good undrafted moves

The thing about a guy like Presti or a guy like Hennigan is the roster they inherited, Presti had both Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis as tradeable assets and Hennigan had Dwight Howard.
Hennigan made a great trade with Howard which was maligned at the time so credit to him but the reality is he had a better base than most to start with.
Rich Cho had Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson as tradeable assets...

exactly. from where he started (even handicapping himself further by screwing the team he was going to work for in a trade for their best player in the Wallace to Portland deal) Rich Cho is playing a game on pretty much the hardest mode possible. when you're starting at a base of 1. no particularly valuable assets 2. not a f/a destination, there is literally no way to build a team without tanking. our tanking has ended in bad luck as far as ping pong balls, so we take the guys that we want to build our culture around and at best we eventually get that superstar via draft, at worst we get a painfully slow rebuild around high character guys and try to make a good TEAM a la Indy. there were never any other options so I don't see how you couldn't be on board

We need a top 3 pick next year, otherwise this rebuild was for nothing and our best hope is becoming a Memphis Grizzles or Indiana Pacers.
Did you seriously mention those two teams as bad future scenarios for us? If anything, we should hope to become a Memphis or Indiana type team, both of which are in small markets and built on hard working guys. Isn't that what we are trying to achieve?
And if you think those teams weren't real contenders, think twice. Indy has given Miami some serious fits for two years in a row and I consider them the main contender out of the East next year. Meanwhile, Memphis has been in the top5 Western mix for three years in a row and was one 3 overtime game short of two conference finals, despite a mediocre offense. I'd be ecstatic to see our Bobcats put together such post-season runs as the ones of the Grizz and the Pacers these last years.

He said best hope so there's some validity. Ideally, our best case scenario was a OKC type rebuild of landing a franchise talent in the draft and our worst case being a Grizzlies/Pacers type of team. With the ship appearing to sail on the OKC type (unless miracles happen in the 2014 draft) it looks like all we have to aspire to is the latter which would be okay but the new worst case scenario is mysterious and scary.
