We also got another future 2nd from Miami. So essentially we moved down two spots and picked up 2 second round draft picks.

Ok, so maybe some of my facts weren't right, but we still got the guy we wanted and got something out of the Heat while doing so.

talking about things that need explaining, I don't get why a team should sell their pick for cash considerations. seriously.. what the hell? why does this happen from time to time? how is this decision even made internally? do the ownership part of the FO receive such a proposal and just tell the GM "sorry, we know that you like some players which we could then draft but we want the million dollars"? who exactly pockets the money? how does the money even help one? how cheap you have to be?
the fact that someone like Brooklyn can just cough up a million bucks for a pick they shouldn't have strikes me as a loophole in the CBA.

100% agreed. I hate it.

Re: Can someone explain to me why we helped out the Heat?
Teams can send/receive up to $3.2m annually in trades. I find it silly myself, but it's permitted by the CBA. I guess at times teams value the cap space over additional rookies.
I knew we weren't keeping all our picks, but I thought we'd trade a first after bringing in half the second round for a tryout. I actually commented in the draft chat (er..."Gary Harris" commented) "I can't wait to see who we draft at 55 and who we sell him too."

Doesn't all that extra money go towards the cap? The extra money helps us sign bigger free agents.

It's separate from the cap. I don't think it's owners being cheap as much as "we don't want another rookie, no one's giving us a future pick or player for this, and we can't just GIVE it away..."

It's not the best but keep in mind we are still paying Tyrus Thomas.

I'd file that under the question about the ownership being "cheap" but, yes, you do make a solid point.
Technically, his salary is the gap between us having a positive net revenue for the last season and us being where we were (around 10 million lost).

I'm disappointed that we traded away a guy that I think will be a complete stud in the NBA, possibly even a sleeper All-Star, but to all places, Miami? Yeah I'm kind of pissed, myself.

They were going to get Napier regardless, they just traded up two measly spots to make sure they did. We definitely didn't have a need for him as we were going to get a veteran to backup Walker in free agency as opposed to the draft.

I can assure you that Houston would've taken him.

I would have congratulated them then on getting what I think will be a solid backup

I think every team that passed on him after about 15 was really stupid, but Houston is the one team I could see passing on him- I think they picked Capela to stash him to clear space, but I have no idea really.

Well I think Houston would've taken him because of LeBron situation, which is why Heat moved up.

I don't think you can "assure it". Everyone that has been reporting on the draft and the free agency has said that the Rockets had the plan of taking a Euro guy so they could stash him and keep their cap space open for the Melo sweepstakes.

Shabazz Napier, Norris Cole, Josh McRoberts, Danny Granger. Unless I'm missing someone that is Miamis current roster.
This is just awesome, i never thought i would care...but now that Miamis moment in the sun is over...this is awesome. You've also got Heat fans thinking they can keep Bosh.
