Never heard of him. We have 16 contracts out, would be pretty surprising if someone other than EWill or Harrison gets that 15th man slot. We'd have to do a 3 for 1 trade to have the space to take on both of those two and another guy.

definitely just a body. No chance to make team with 16 guys under contract. He'd have to play out of his mind to make it.

I doubt it. The Hornets don't currently have a D-League team. I think I read that the plans for the commencement of the new team would be for the 2016-2017 season at the earliest.

Yes, we are getting our own d-league team in 2017 here in a yet to be determined city in NC/SC, however I think JD was talking about the general D-league team that we currently share with half the league.

Yes, because it's shared, the Hornets have no control over who gets signed by those generic D-League teams.

The Hornets can only send their own players from their NBA team, signed to an NBA contract, and taking up a roster spot on the Hornets. They would be considered NBA players "on assignment" to the D-League, and can be recalled back to the Hornets at any time, since they're under contract and take up one of the roster spots on the NBA team.

So if the Hornets don't give him a roster spot on the NBA team, they aren't allowed to send him to that generic D-League team or sign him up to it. The Hornets have no operational control over those generic shared D-League teams, so they can't even offer a D-League contract or D-League roster spot to Thompson.

Hence the push to establish their own new D-League team, so that they can call the shots and have greater control over it as a resource.

^ True. Hes basically just a body. He never showed anything in college. Not a dynamite athlete either. I honestly can't say anything this kid does well. Maybe hes a good defender?

Oh well, maybe he will give MKG fits in practice.

Problem is Indiana is buying the Mad Ants. Teams like CHA no longer have a team to send players to, until we start our own:
The Indiana Pacers are set to buy the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the last D-League team not owned by an NBA team and without a single-affiliation deal, according to D-League Digest. Last season, Fort Wayne had 13 affiliates, including the Pacers and the Toronto Raptors, who now own their own D-League franchise, Raptors 905. It is unclear, according to D-League Digest, how exactly things will work next season for the other 11 teams. Ideally, in a few years' time, every NBA team will have a one-to-one relationship with a D-League team.

PS: in terms of Sam Thompson, this kid shot 26% from 3; no way he makes this team.

Um, he's actually an incredible athlete. Despite his relatively mediocre career at OSU, he was remarkably exciting to watch. He has ridiculous hops, he's very quick, and he's able to twist and turn and stretch in the air to grab a bad lob or adjust off-balance. He frequently brought the house down finishing lobs or putting down monster jams after a cut. Every single one of his highlight films is an absolute blast to watch.

A few times, he literally looks down at the rim.

So yeah, no chance of making the team, but saying he's not a good athlete is crazy.
